SNOM 190 Review

Snom 190

I was using X-Line from Xten on my Apple iBook. The SNOM 190 phone is a HUGE leap up in quality and functionality. It's really solidly built; and you can control the whole phone and all it's functions from the phone's web page (via it's IP number).

It has 5 programmable keys and you can have upto 7 VoIP accounts. Again, all operated from the web site. The site even has it's own address book and you can see all dialed, received and missed calls. With a little bit of AppleScripting I will be able to highlight a telephone number in my web browser; do a right-click, and the phone will dial! Same from my Apple AddressBook.

Now all we need is website and companies to put active sip telephone links on their sites and dialing we be as easy as emailing!!

Only a couple of small issues: The LCD screen is not backlit; there is no power over ethernet on this model; and it would be nice if the divert function was not generic to all SIP accounts, but rather was programmable per account.

Apart from that I am VERY happy.

I purchased the phone from a UK company called ProVu (www.provu.com). It seems they have worked hard with SNOM to get their phones working well and the bugs ironed out. The phone retails for under $300.
