Main Features
A friend kindly let me have one of these, with 2 RJ45 ports, so I can use a single wall socket and have my laptop plugged in and use both at the same time (with seperate IP addresses).
Firmware
The firmware version that mine had was old and for SIP. Set up is relatively simple - although it can be done via the keypad, I preferred the (basic design) web interface. Updating this to IAX2 version was a simple painless process, by downloading the new software from atcom.com.cn and using the web interface no palmtools or similar!
There are also downloads for h323 and MGCP. STUN & NAT are supported, with some non UK ITSP’s pre configured.
Testing
I tested this unit on Sip services from voipfone.co.uk. Although the unit worked, it never seemed quite right, losing registration occasionally and losing calls. A software upgrade could have improved this but got superceded by my installation of an Asterisk server. Having now upgraded the phone to IAX2 I can report that the QoS is great.
Advantages
Looks like good value. Design is more European than the usual "chunky" far-eastern products.
Relatively easy to setup, via keypad or web. Sound quality is good and the ability to switch between protocols via downloads is great!
Disadvantages
There are too many buttons that are not required or used regularly. I count at least 6 (buttons for your IP address etc). Although not offensive, they create clutter to an otherwise nice design.
The Handset could rest on base a little better it's easy to not hang up properly.
It's a bit too light - a little more weight in the base would improve it.
On the whole, I am happy using this in an office environment and wouldn’t be ashamed to have it at home, even if the ice cram van ring tones might get a little tedious....
An overall thumbs up from me!
