T-30 Skype IP Mate Review

Sky IPmate T30

I recently received a small gadget called the T-30 IP Mate. Essentially, the company that sells it advertises that this product allows Skype users to place and receive Skype calls in their cell phones for free. At first I was hesitant because I have already been disappointed by other devices which promised to do a similar job but at the end didn’t. This product, however, managed to transfer my calls from my Skype in my PC to my cell phone and vice versa. Not only was I able to get it to work but the sound quality was altogether good.

Essentially the T-30 works simply. The package comes with the T-30, a phone and USB cable and an installation CD. Once out, I connected the T30 to my PC via USB, then plugged the phone cable into the line-in port of my regular phone set, and then plugged my home PSTN cable to the line-in port in the T-30.

After installing the software and setting it up I was able to receive all of my Skype incoming calls in my mobile phone, or use the latter to call my Skype contacts. The T-30 operates as an intermediary between my Skype PC and my regular PSTN phone line, resembling the job performed by a PBX like Asterisk.

When I called my home phone number a female voice answered and asked me for the Skype speed dial number. I entered the one I assigned to my buddy in Nebraska, and voilà , I was talking to him in no time. Then I tested the Skype to cell phone forward feature. From a different computer I called my official Skype name then, the same female voice answered and told me that my phone call was being forwarded and a few seconds after my cell phone was ringing. You don’t need to forward you phone calls specifically to a cell phone but you may also do it to any number as long as you are aware that the T-30 will use your PSTN line to make the transfer from Skype to my your cell phone number. Another interesting feature is the one that lets you use your regular phone set to make or answer Skype and regular PSTN calls. This feature is definitely neat for it takes away the hassle of being seated in front of your computer each time you want to use your Skype, now I essentially have two phone lines in one phone set.

In summary The T-30 is a very interesting product. It makes Skype really portable, gives the mobility I wasn’t getting for free before, and its performance is good.
