VoIP User Inbound UK Numbers Support - Help testing VoIP numbers

upmarket - Jul 12, 2004 - 05:52 AM

I hate to go begging like this, but I promise to repay the favor...

Could someone please give me a call at my redirect number? 0844-484-9166. It will just go to voicemail if I can't answer so call 24/7.

I'm actually sending a proposal to the uk and I'd like to include my uk phone number as a reminder that I"m not that far away after all.

thanks.

maybe we could make this help a regular thing? I mean, us here in the US could check out a number or something else here while people in the UK could check the numbers we're getting off this thing...jsut a thought.

take care

No answer and didn't get voicemail, but it did ring.

Call worked for me. After maybe 30sec ringing I was able to leave you a voicemail. btw, I called from my UK mobile phone, I'm not sure if this makes any difference.

Faraz, got your voicemail, thanks a million! Anything you need just ask.

I got another number dialed in, too, and I suppose that was you, Dean. My phone is only set to go to VoiceMail after 6 rings, because that's how long it can take me to get the thin out of my pocket someitmes (cell). So I assume maybe if you didn't get voicemail it was because you stopped after a few rings and not because of a service problem.

How about faxing? Does it do that?

Well, that's great to know

take care

Might have hung up before 6 rings - not 100% sure as I was busy at the office Wink

Fax should be ok - haven't tried it myself. If you want to point a number at your fax machine, let me know and I'll send you a test fax tomorrow.

Hi Joel,

Faxing via Voice over Ip is tricky, it sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't as fax is far more sensitive for break-ups/missing audio then voice is.

On the other hand if you use our number forwarding over PSTN then it should all be fine.

I was going to just forward the number to efax, since I've messed up every actual paper fax I've ever been involved with. What does everyone think of that?

Only issue is you only get one 0844 number, and the 0870 doesn't work on weekends. The other numbers are just too expensive to ask someone to use them for faxing (I've set up one 0871 to forward to my cell phone, because you guys in the UK are comfortable with the idea of paying more to call someone on a cell phone). Not be greedy (OK, to be greedy) but is there anyway of getting more than one (but not chunks of) 0844 number? Otherwise, I'd just use the 0870 fax number that Puma whatever is selling for 15 pounds a year + VAT--anyone know a better deal?

I'm still nonetheless interested in trying out the fax thing, if no one's done it before...which would be surprising...

thanks

Joel,

You can always re-subscribe as upmarket2 and get a second account.

We might change it later for users to have more numbers. The problem is that we need to re-introduce numbers to the "pool" if they are unused.

But as long as the numbers get some activity, it makes no real difference to us.

Perhaps what we'll offer later is something for "senior members" to have more numbers on their control panel.

On the point made on your other thread about calling UK numbers from certain providers in other countries, yes I agree, you're absolutely right - would be useful to mention.

I'll edit the help articles etc at the weekend (probably won't get time until then) and make the point.

If someone would like extra numbers on their account and they have a good reason for it, they can just email or PM me and i'll add them the option for an extra number of their choosen type.

This saves them the hassle of multple accounts as every number will be in their standard 'my numbers' control panel.

I'm holding off on giving it to anyone in the meantime. Or could you just append my upmarket2 number to my upmarket numbers group?

By the way, my reasons for wanting the numbers: I'm a copywriter who periodically has clients in the UK (upmarket is the doing business as name, in case you were wondering); at the moment I'm in the process of proposing about $3,000 worth of work to a web dev. there, and I think that having a UK number would emphasize how approachable I am.

An 0871 number for fax is too high, 0870 is a little too high but if it doesn't work on weekends it's no good; 0844 is just right.

So, I have: upmarket numbers: 0844 for company direct line (answering service usually); 0871 for my mobile; and upmarket 0844 for fax, which I still haven't tested yet.

To be honest, however, there wouldn't be heavy usage of these numbers, particularly the fax numbers, but they would be used.

Hi Upmarket,

I can transfer your current upmarket2 numbers to your upmarket account and delete upmarket2 from the system if that is ok with you ?

Further more as long as the numbers are used sometimes then it is fine. We currently have a minimum for once every 3 months, if not used within a 3 month periode the number will expire and be recycled back to the pool of free numbers.

We might lower this if we get a shortage of numbers or a lot of idle numbers but for now this should not be a problem.

Let me know on the trasnfer of numbers.

Thanks a million for that. Please transfer the numbers from upmarket2 to plain old upmarket. I have yet to see how it does with terminating to efax, but I'm going to try to see if I can fax to my number from onebox.

Take care

Hi Joel,

Sorry about the delay, your number on the upmarket2 has now be transfered to your upmarket account and you are allowed to have 2 0844 and 2 0871 numbers.

Hopes this is enough for you for a while.

Regards,

Tj

P.S. I'll delete upmarket2 from the user database in a bit.
