First and foremost, I would like to include that I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to computers, and also, I am running Windows XP (if that helps). I will also bold and color important parts of my posts for good measure.

Here is a screen shot of my current connections. I excluded local connections, every connection you see there has a copy without "FRX576B2" in front.

Image

I believe this is what is showing up as "Adware.Generic" after every AVG full system scan.

I had recently gotten rid of another worm/malware/etc, by the name of babe.the-killer.bz, which was removed by changing my hosts file. But this seems different, I can find no background information on "FRX576B2" nor can I remotely hope to find the source of this problem without some help. I have a slow connection, so it's hard for me to notice any sudden changes.

It seems to act in the exact fashion of any malware, also, I found this interesting...

Image

Whatever it is, it has installed itself and it wants to stay there. I looked through my services and didn't find anything that seemed to be of any harm, then again, I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at.

Any help would be nice, be it instructions on how to remove the problem (if I have one, may just be paranoia), or software that will remove the problem for me.

Weclome to VoIP User ScarfaceEvaStar.

You might be better taking that problem to a virus/malware etc type forum (or even a general computer or Windows forum). It's really way off topic for us here.

But I've moved it here into our off-topic forum just in case anyone knows the answer!

The FRX576B2 looks like it is the "name" of your machine? Does it have a name? XP machines are inclined to get slower over a few months or so as they gradually run more an more little programs in the background.

What I do when looking at a Virus infected computer in not try to run it! I make a Linux Live CD on another computer and run that so that I can recover files and inspect the hard-drive without further risk of infection. A good live CD to try is DSL (Damn Small Linux ~60Mb). You can download the ISO (free) and make a CD from it. Pop the CD into the CD drive of your computer/turn the computer on. DSL should run and you can try running the Web Browser (FireFox I think) from there. DSL does not at this stage touch your XP hard drive. Once it is running you can inspect the XP hard drive and recover files if you wish ..

At this stage though I would recover what is needed from the hard drive, reformat it (possibly more than once) and reinstall windows (if forced!)

Yes, it is. Only now did I think to look over my system properties. I feel like a jackass.

For all that it's worth, thanks for the help.

But, there's still the question of the second issue, what is "My Way Search Assistant" and why can't I uninstall it?

My Way Search Assistant:

Have a look at this ......
http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread18008.html

I have never heard of it but there a 3 brand new Dells sitting on the floor of our General Office comlete with Vista ... perhaps I am about to learn. Why don't you give Linux a try? A lot less trouble.

WHile you are here, learn a bit about Voip.

Thanks to everyone for the information, I was hesitant to use google considering I once got hit with the same adware twice. I'm currently trying to remove it.

@dibsmft
Linux seems too complicated for me, but I've always heard it is far superior to other OPSs currently in existence, I've been thinking about giving it a shot but this is a shared computer. Your advice on the DSL and CD trick was great, and I'm trying that as well.

Also, Voip makes little to no sense to me, but I am slo interested in that as well. The "About VoIP" page in laymen's terms would be nice.

Glad that you have sorted out your problems.
The idea that Linux (or Unix) is complicated is not correct, we are just told that it is. I have a copy of Vista that came with a laptop but initially removed it because it used so much space, it was slow and wanted to be boss. I then ran a live Linux CD to make sure that it found all of the devices in and on the computer (it did) and then installed it (less than 30 minutes).
I recently reinstalled Vista (to be able to test things in connection with Voipuser and I had been forced to pay for it anyway), it took most of an afternoon) and I am still missing several drivers. It is pretty, seems to come with very little software and a good job that most people get it preinstalled. I use Windows, MSDOS or Linux depending on which can best do the job at hand.
When you have nothing better to do, download a live CD ISO (eg. Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS, Elive, DSL or Mepis) make a CD from the ISO. Shut the computer down pop the CD in and turn ths computer on. Most machines will boot the CD and run the Linux without using your hard drive at all. They all come with plenty of software including SIP clients ... MEPIS comes with Skype preinstalled so if you have a Skype account you should be able to use it. When you are done exit Linux and remove the CD. The live CDs can be installed over Windows (easy) or along side Windows (more difficult, take care with this as Windows is fussy about where is is on the drive).
