Very interesting piece from Dan about methods of attack on VoIP systems using botnets (he talks specifically about SIP in his example, although the same principles apply to any protocol):-

We've talked a bit here about OSP. Something that VoIP User has been actively working on and looking to test in peering environments. It would prevent a lot of the issues that Dan highlights from ever happening, due to the validation of originating network for each SIP transaction. I'll talk more about this soon - we're just getting together a group of peers to run some tests, and will report on our findings.
