Counterpath License Z-fone Encryption Technology

Written by martyndavies on Apr 10, 2007 - 01:07 PM

The latest to beat a path to Phil Zimmermann's door, IP Softphone specialist Counterpath have decided to license ZRTP for end-to-end voice encryption. All the news for ZRTP seems to be good recently, with the recent IETF meeting deciding that ZRTP was in the final two key exchange schemes under consideration out of an original list of thirteen last year.

Counterpath President & COO Donovan Jones:
Quote:
We expect this collaboration to positively impact commercial viability of softphones and play an important role in how corporations protect their intellectual property.

Familiar Counterpath products include the X-Lite and eyeBeam softphones, both of which will receive the ZRTP technology. Counterpath also provide the client software used by British Telecom in the BT Broadband Talk Softphone, which currently does not use encryption of media or signalling.
