Hi Guys!

I got an automatically genereated mail from "info@voipuser.org" tonight which says:
"your account has been disabled for outbound PSTN service"
...
"You are probably receiving this message as you have been using outbound service extensively without contributing to the VoIP User community."

What is it all about? As I know I had 3-4 PSTN calls a day, each about for 10 minutes. It might be an extensive use, but I could only read about that 90min/call and 2,5pound/min limit on the forum. No-one said my PSTN calls were much, it's just disabled. It was REALLY good for testing, but I used the service for personal calls too which I miss now Sad
I wonder what I did for getting this mail... Is it disabled temporarily or forever? Could You please answer?
Kind Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Sounds like you got the brunt end of the bot (we have an automated system on the server).

It's not impossible that it got something wrong - I'll go take a look. It has currently been setup to only block serious abuse though. Are you sure you weren't using the outbound service extensively?

We wouldn't mind as long as you're using the inbound service also extensively, but you have to exercise a little judgement.

No it's temporary. It takes into account your contribution to the community in other ways also.

We'll have the Call Data Records on display per account shortly, then you'll be able to see exactly what you're using. That will make it easier for people to know where they're up to. At the moment, you need to use some discretion.

If you're only making 3-4 short outbound calls a day, it sounds like an error at our end - I'll go and check. We do have beta software here, it may goof up from time to time....

Hi Peter,

I've had a look at the call records, and it basically looks like this:-

20 hours outbound use
1 minute generated inbound to the pot

So if you imagine a piece of software seeing that.....

It also takes into account your contribution to the forum etc. While you have been around and made a few posts etc, it's not really enough. We have to protect the outbound pot.

Standby a bit though - I'll be having a chat with Tj about things this afternoon. We'll try and reset everything at the beginning of the month and start again, perhaps with a couple of warning emails or something first so that at least users know when limits are getting close. The truth of it is we are adapting and changing the software as we go - we're in a state of flux at the moment in reality. This is a new thing and we're still trying to find the right balance in order to make the system work.

In the meantime, there's loads of ways you can contribute towards the community here - writing a review etc. So perhaps you can consider that, if you're not able to use your inbound number all that much.

Hi Dean,
Thanks for Your reply!
dean :

20 hours outbound use

Wow! That is pretty much! If I multiply it with the number of registered users of voipuser.org that cannot be allowed. Ok I understand the restriction.

I agree! I must admit that I did not want to break the "rules".

I spent a few nights with making my voip system work, so I might have something to share. Anyway these thing are very practical for someone who wants to start using voip. Where should I send my reviews?
