Hi,
gray has been trying to help me set up voicemail in the Inbound User Support forum but it looks like its a problem with what I am seeing on my own "My numbers" page
| forestfield : | | gray : | Just put a tick in the little box on the My Numbers page that says 'Voicemail' your messages will be sent to you by email as a .wav file
It is just below the boxes that select Destination 1 and Destination 2 |
That sounds ideal. But I don't see any of that on my own "My Numbers" page.
I am logged in, and I see the heading: "My PSTN Inbound Numbers", followed by "Click here to request a new number"
The last thing that appears on the page is a line saying
"Number (Click to Edit)" and "Current Termination"
and the rest of the page is completely blank!!
|
Is there something wrong?
Regards,
David |

Hi David,
That's because you haven't requested one
At the moment you just have a SIP account, with one 0844 933 **** number. We can't route those through to voicemail.
The "MyNumbers" refers to additional numbers, which we can do slightly more with. They're slightly more expensive (the 0844 ranges there are 5p/min at BT rates from memory).
If you click the request a new number link, grab an 0844 and direct it to your SIP account address (forestfield @voipuser.org) for destination 1, and then tick the voicemail box, that should set you up as you need to be.
Any questions on that, fire away. But the short point is you need to request a new 0844 number in the MyNumbers control panel and set that up to point to your SIP phone first, then go to voicemail.

Ah! All is clear now. Thanks.
I'm planning on diverting business calls to voip/voicemail instead of to my mobile/voicemail when I am away. So even 5p a minute will be good value, especially when abroad. Does all of the extra money go to voipuser? I hope so

Yes, that's basically what funds us.

Sorry to be a pain but I have received a new number, set it up with voicemail and tried to test it. I have made two calls and left a voice message each time in response to the invitation.
I don't know what the normal turn around time is, but would have thought it was fairly quick, but after 2 hours I have not received anything at my registered email - dfh_voip -at- forestfield.co.uk

You might want to check your email spam filter Dave?
Should be in by now. It's not instant but done in batches every 15 minutes (or so).

Well, one of the two voicemails finally arrived about six hours later. But looking at the headers the delay was caused on the servers of my own mail provider.
One other question, if I may. I will be using this voip account mainly for incoming calls and will be creating probably two other accounts that will be used by the family mainly for outgoing calls (although they will each want their own unique DID number).
Is there any way of associating these accounts into a group so that they can share their overall voip user 'credit rating'? That is, so that my own incoming call credits can be used by the whole family.
Regards,
David |

Hi David,
Hmmm - I totally understand what you want to do and why you want to do it, but I'm afraid we can't - our software simply wasn't designed to associate accounts in that way.
What you could do, now you've checked it all, is have one of them create a new VoIP User account and have them grab a new 0844 MyNumber and point that to your SIP account and Voicemail, and then switch their account email address to your email address. I hope that makes some sense
It's a bit long winded, but would at least work for one of them.

Um, I could follow these instructions but I wouldn't know what the effect would be, can you let me in on the secret?

Calls to that number would route to your phone, but credit to their account. |
