Not easy and not free. They are available from commercial providers but you pay setup and monthly fees. Why not do it the other way round ? Register with your UK provider whilst in Portugal ?

You don't mention your specific application, if its for making local calls in Portugal whilst there you are still talking 1p a minute from most providers.

Broadband is freely available and there is even a pay per magabyte facility from 'Sapo' so you can have broadband on demand. Lots of people here with holiday properties use it.

If you can give me specific requirements I can suggest some more sources

You may be able to help in a few ways Gray.

I am involved with a property in Portugal which is rented to people on holiday. I run an IT consultancy here in the UK and need to keep in touch most the time. Family also go out to Portugal quite often and my idea was if they called a local number in Portugal via VOIP it could route to my VOIP System here in the UK.

How does the Broadband system work in Portugal, I've tried reading up but I get lost with the Portuguese tbh. The area in Portugal in Praia Da Luz. Hope you can help some way, I know the UK technologies really well but haven't really a clue about Portugal.

Broadband system in PT works the same as most places - in fact better than some. There are all kinds of packages but the 'mainstream ones' are provided by Portugal Telecom. Their basic service starts about €25 a month (plus phone line rental) but there are other phone line and adsl packages around now that offer a saving.

Just run a simple ATA like a PAP2 or Sipura (more info on the Voipuser forum) and link in to your UK Voip system. (Give us some more info on what you want to connect to and we can come up with specific ideas).

As a bonus (When not running VOIP) why not use the internet connection for monitoring the house when unattended using a cheap IP camera.

For info:

If signed up with PT Telecom you can now get an inbound 30xxxxxx telephone number for free.

Just need to sort an Asterisk box out or similar to register to all the sip accounts.

Startel offer a commercial solution to getting a Portuguese DID from 6 euros a month.

As always you can redirect your Portuguese DID to your SIP address (even if it is from another VoIP provider)
