Hi M8s,
I'm a complete novice to Voip apart from using Skype to contact my M8 in UK. I live in Tenerife and used Voipbuster for a while . I then found this forum and asked a couple of questions and was directed to the Linksys 2100 adapter to get free calls to the UK and a local call number for M8s in the UK to ring me.
Having bought the adapter can anyone help me, IN LAYMANS, terms, how to download the relevant software!!! from the providers to enable me to use the adapter. I would prefer to have free!! calls to the UK and a Local number for my family to ring me from the UK.
Who should I use and how do I prog. the Linksys box?
I understand how to connect the box between my computer and router but from there on in I'm lost.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Dave |

Dave:
You should first get familiar with SPA2100 parameters.
I would recommend your to configure these parameters in your SPA2100:
Go to Admin Advanced options and select Voice tab; then go to Line 1 tab and configure this:
Line Enable: YES
Proxy and Registration Section
Proxy: sip.voipuser.org
Use Outbound Proxy: NO
Outbound Proxy: <empty>
Use OB Proxy In Dialog: NO
Register: YES
Register Expires: 300
Subscriber Information section
Display Name: <what you want to sent as caller id name>
User ID: davecabezo
Password: <your voipuser user password>
Use Auth ID: NO
[b]Dial Plan section
Dial Plan: (xx.|*xx.|**xx.)
In the future, when you get familiar with linksys SPA dial plan you can create a more elaborated dial plan.
If the previous configuration doesn't work for you, probably you are behind a NAT and need to confire some additional parameters. You should set these parameters also:
In Line 1 tab, NAT Settings section:
NAT Mapping Enable: YES
NAT Keep Alive Enable: NO
NAT Keep Alive Msg: $NOTIFY
NAT Keep Alive Dest: $PROXY
In SIP tab, NAT Support Parameters section:
Handle VIA received: YES
Handle VIA rport: YES
Insert VIA received: YES
Insert VIA rport: YES
Substitute VIA Addr: NO
Send Resp To Src Port: NO
STUN Enable: YES
STUN Test Enable: NO
STUN Server: stun.voipuser.org

Hi Juan C,
As I said I was a complete novice to Voip and I don't know how to "get familiar with the Linksys parameters". There are no instructions with the unit, I've connected the unit to the computer and I'm still on the netbut I cannot find any program etc on the Linksys on my computer, the New Hardware wizard has not seen the Linksys either so where do I start?
The parameters you have told me to set, when I do eventually get into the Linksys, do they then enable me to use a telephone on the net or are there other parameters to set or software to download. How do I get a UK local number etc.etc.?
Regards,
Dave |

Well Dave.
Do this:
- Connect a Phone to Phone 1 port in your SPA2100.
- Dial ****73738# and then 1 to confirm. The device will restore to default parameters.
- After the device gets ready again, dial ****110#. You will hear the IP address of the device.
- Go to your PC and open any web browser you have and type http://<IP address heard>/admin/advanced and click on Voice tab.
The rest of the instructions are in my previous post.

Be very carefull with this instruction! If your SPA2100 is locked to specific VoSP, performing the above instruction will completely relock your device! If your SPA2100 is not locked to specific VoSP on its factory default settings, then this is not an issue here. |

O.K M8s,
What do I do?
Seems a conflict of opinion.
Will I realy cock up if my phone is locked or are all eventualities retrievable, as I say I'm a complete novice and am totally in your hands.

Dave |

You will need to know if your SPA2100 is locked to specific VoSP. Without this, you are taking a 50/50 risk to have your device locked to the VoSP if you do a factory reset. You can find this out from the place you bought this device. |

Dave:
Where did you buy your SPA2100? I don't really believe you bought a device tied to a provider.

Hi again Juan C,
I plugged in a telephone and dialed the numbers and got my IP address but when I tried to access it,it came back with Opreration timed out, does this mean firewall probs? I share internet access with a neighbour 2 doors away who has the router and I hard wired across the roof to my computer. We are with Telefonica, What should I do next?
Cheers,
Dave |

Dave:
Sorry, the announced IP address is WAN IP address not the LAN one.
Please try http://192.168.0.1/admin/advanced after connecting your computer to SPA2100's LAN port and before configuring your computer to get an IP address from SPA2100's DHCP server which is enabled by default.

Hi Dave,
You're going to need to help yourself to a large extent here.
| Quote: | | any guides or manuals |
Have you read the user manual? That's probably the best place to start.
Also, what does the Telefonica guide suggest you should do?

Hi Dean,
I'm trying to help myself but I do need some guidence.
Telefonica has no info whatsoever. They provide an internet connection only. Wher can I get hold of an info manual for the Linksys?
It is very difficult when you just don't know where to start!

Dave |

Dave:
If you did what I wrote in my first post complemented with what I wrote in my previous post your should be able to use your SPA2100 to make, at least, a call to 0844 986 ECHO (3246).
As Dean wrote, you cannot expect anybody here do everything for you. I am very compromised in helping you, but help yourself also. The Sipura/Linksys ATA user's Guide can be found here and an admin complement for SPA21000 can be found here.
Anyway, if you need any additional help please come here.
