I dont know if 1899 and 18866 have had a rethink but they have removed the message saying they are dropping SIP support. And they now have a link saying "Prolonged! VoIP calls with Call18866."

http://www.call18866.co.uk/voip.php

and they also have a page with rates for VOIP

On 1899.com:

Code:
Good news for our SIP/IAX (and Macintosh) users! We have managed to increase our capacity. Therefore (and in contrary to earlier notices) we will be able to support VoIP calls via alternative SIP/IAX clients. Click here for installation instructions.

Is anyone currently (today) using either 1899.com or 18866.co.uk with
anything other then 1899/18866's own soft-phones ?

I registered for both over the last few days, and can do PSTN calls via
them, but VoIP calls via X-Lite, Asterisk, and other soft-phone's don't
seem to work (specifically registration attempts get refused for both
SIP and IAX2 configurations). However I have managed to make calls
using their own softphone. Looking at packet traces, the only difference
between an IAX trace from their own client (reg.accepted), and an IAX
trace from Asterisk (reg.refused),seems to be the refresh interval. So I'm
not sure if they've blocked off third party IAX/SIP clients again, or if its
something broken in my configuration.

If anyone is using either of them with Asterisk, then could you post your
working sip.conf or iax.conf section (peer definition and any register
statement), thanks! (without passwords/real numbers of course)

Hi I have also been trying to get 18866.co.uk and 1899.com working with third party softphones Firefly and X-Lite. I have been using sipgate.co.uk for sending and receiving calls, but I am unable to get either 18866 or 1899 to work despite two days effort and caffine.

I have also trawled the forums and their is evidence, that it does (did?) work, dated at the beginning of the year. I have tried different software and router configurations, but I am coming to the conclusion that only their own software works (without need to open ports in the router's firewall - DL-604).

It's a shame really because their rates are good and when using the services by dialling a prefix when calling someone on the PSTN, the quality is good. Noticeably better than their softphones.

If anyone can get the software working I would be very happy to hear from them.
