Written by mathew on Mar 16, 2006 - 08:16 AM
Now you can link skype to sip, it is great when PBX is used.
you can also use it to provid virtual numbers that skype does not provide to skype user, also i did integrated internetcalls so now i can use skype to call for free.
it still need some additions but for the moment it is functioning

I tried to use it, but Asterisk is giving this error message:
Mar 16 10:24:37 WARNING[557]: chan_sip.c:5284 check_via: '' is not a valid host
Mar 16 10:24:37 WARNING[557]: chan_sip.c:4511 parse_contact: Invalid host ''
Apparently there is an error in the VIA line. IP Address is missing. This is what Uplink sends:
Via: SIP/2.0/UDP :52736;rport;branch=z9hG4bK2304
There is no way to modify it.

I'm having a problem trying to get this to the voipuser.org server; I want to see if the whole thing improves my cheap and hence nasty USB phone box which works well with Skype but has very bad audio for SIP (using X-Lite).
Set Skype2sip with
username: justinwhite
server: voipuser.org (have tried sip.voipuser.org)
but whenever I start Uplink get:
server voipuser.org did not respond to register (sip:justinwhite@voipuser.org)
check server details for that line
Any ideas?

I don't know what to say!! I have been testing this thing for almost a week now and nothing has been hard to understand. if you go to the producer site you will find total lack of documentation,. anyway it worked for me nicely.
I installed axon as my ippbx and then I configured 2 extentions 101 and 102 , then I added an external line to my voipuser account .
I will explain the steps i went through.
first i installed uplink and i configured the sip part as follow.
user name : 101
password: 101
sip server: 192.168.1.3
then i restarted it and i opened skype so it discovered skype and conected to it but not to the sip.
then i installed axon and i configured the following.
extention:
extention name : 101
password: 101
then run network setup wizard. so it will get the following:
sip server 192.168.1.3 port 5061 stun1:stun.fwdnet.net
stun2:stun01.sipphone.com and it will obtain the external IP.
External line:
username: my voipuser
password: my voipuser password
sip server:sip.voipuser.org
now restart uplink and when it logs in again it will register as 101 on the pbx. after that the uplink configuration which is rather easy.
i think the problem is in 2 part:
1:uplink does not have a place where we can configure sip port
2:STUN proplem specially if you are behind nat.
so i thought that the axon ippbx is good because we can guarantee that we have no problem with sip port interface since axon will use a free port. and also it will resolve the stun problem.
this is the way it worked for me. and also i could connect my ippbx to a remot ippbx and it work cool.

Probably this software has an intentional bug not causing problems to Axon, so it only works with Axon. I hope that is not true.

I totally agree with you Jan, it is an intentional bug.
I did several tests finishing with uninstalling the program and reinstalling it again, and hell no thing is working.
It never recognises the axon ippbx nor regester to any sip server. only working as a vertual connection with skype.

Hi,
I downloaded the software, but it didn't seem to register to my A@H server. The port is hardwired into it and I even tried to override it by enterring 192.168.x.y:5060 for the SIP server but no luck.
I was sent an email from the company that created it requesting feedback. I told them about the problems it had and I also sent them the URL of this topic. I hope they will do something about it. This is their email (suggestions@nch.com.au). If you think it would make a difference, email them.
Thanks,
Yiannis
P.S. They emailled me first. I didn't.
I am not affiliated, related in any way to NCH.

I've tried Uplink, Axon and Skype combined on one computer, twice, once a Windows XP and a Windows 2000 system. Additionally, I've got a Fritz!Box Fon 7050 SIP device with my telephone connected to it.
So, in Axon I've defined two lines, one for Uplink and one for the SIP device. Both Uplink and the SIP device register correctly to Axon.
On the XP machine, I can place a call by dialing the number of the Uplink-line on my telephone - and it works.
However, I can only place one call, then Uplink and Skype will freeze. On incoming calls, both programs hang immediately.
On the Win 2000 machine, I get a Skype error. It's the "recording device" function of uplink. If I set my computer microphone as recording device in Skype, I can place calls with my telephone. Of course, I would have to speak through the microphone then and listen through the speaker of the telephone.
Can somebody help?

Hi All,
if the problem is true, I'm thinking why we should be doing the testing for a product that is not opensource and run on Windows only? Yes, it's free. But does that mean that we should take it or leave it?
I believe more options would be available if the Skype bandwagon proves to be attractive enough to jump onto.

Hi astervoip,
I am sorry to say so, but I am looking for solutions that work. I definetely prefer an Open Source solution that works to a closed source solution that works. But if an open source solution doesn't work, guess what? It's not a solution! It's a problem!
So, give me open source solutions and I will use them. Since I am not a developer, I cannot give back that way, but there are other ways to help OS projects. If I find a commercial use for a OS project, rest assured I will "give" back to it in some way.
Open source for the sake of open source doesn't help. Open source for the users works. Give us something that works and we will support it. Until then, we rely on closed source.
Sorry if I sound aggressive, I am not, really. I am just trying to make a point. Open Source has given some fantastic software to use and I am gratefull. The most succesfull OS project? Apache! Long live Apache!
So, if anyone has a solution for skype to sip, please let us know.
Please accept my apologies for my rant,
Yiannis

Hi Yiannis,
I do not consider your comments aggressive, especially when they are true. If I sounded like I'm anti closed-source, I'm not(I'm using Windows as my desktop).
All systems have their values if used properly.
As stated earlier, I believe more products/softwares would be available for Skype interconnect. Just need to be patient. If my argument/prediction is invalid to you, it would be pointless to continue any debate. I'm sure you would agree flame-wars are useless to everybody, not just the both of us.

I propose we pull together and get back to them with our findings, and hopefully they will sort out everything out.
What do you think?
