I noticed that we only have a username [!at] voipuser.org (replace the [!at] with a @) format, so the voipuser.org users can't call each other , and I forward my fwd number to my URI,it didn't work.why not assign a digit number to members?

We do - the 0844 phone number. This is incorporated into our SIP server, so if you dial another VoIP User member on their 0844, the call is routed VoIP only peer-to-peer, without going over the PSTN.

We are currently setting up a peering arrangement with FWD's SIP server and others. When that is done, we'll also have a prefix code for the VoIP User SIP server so users on other networks would simply dial that prefix, followed by your 0844.

VoIP User white pages would be useful, created on a voluntary basis, of course. Don't you think so?

Sure,

We could put that in the memberlist so it shows in the profile, or maybe have a searchable directory?

Any thoughts?

I noticed your Avatar Wink We have on the way a URL lookup you can use to display an image which will be either red or green depending on your online status on the SIP server.

Maybe both?

Something similar to my FWD indicator? Very good idea.

I guess that would cover it...

Exactly. Although I notice on your FWD one that it doesn't display properly? I think this might be down to you using tinyurl to reduce the URL size, although you don't need to, the actual URL is not displayed.

It works fine if I copy/paste your URL into IE.

It does. FWD SIP server has been down since early morning today.

I used tinyurl to manage to fit my rather long "signature" in the profile signature box.

Hi Dean!

First of all I really appreciate your work in this service! I like to call my family on wired PSTN (0036...) for free Smile So far this was the only thing that worked for me. That is why I have a few questions. If you have no time could you please reply only the 1st:

1. You wrote that: "if you dial another VoIP User member on their 0844, the call is routed VoIP only peer-to-peer, without going over the PSTN. "
Is there a trick, because it doesn't work for me? My friend and I have Grandstream BT101 with fw.1.0.5.16. And as I dial his 0844 type number (the one he got with member registration) I can see only a "404" error on the lcd. We tried it with requested 0844 type number forwarded to sip (xxx@voipuser.org) but it didn't work either.

2. I have requested all four type of numbers, but only a few caller-number-forward combination worked.
a) 0844 and 0870 type numbers forwarded to my SIP could be called from wired landline, but couldn't be called from my mobile (it was said there cannot be connected anyone on those numbers). Is there a reason why?

b) 07031 type number forwarded to "Hungary Mobile" couldn't be called from wired landline nor from mobile nor from my SIP phone (404 error). I accept if not because I cannot call Hungarian Mobile directly with 0036... calls (I guess it is more than 2.50p, isn't it?). In this case why it is possible to forward 07031 number to Hungarian Mobiles?

c) 0871 type number is forwarded to PSTN (0036... wired landline) but it couldn't be called from wired landline nor from mobile nor from my SIP phone (404 error). Though the 0036... number could be called directly from my SIP phone.

I know I am asking much. But if you have time could you please answer?
Thanks,
Peter

Dean - does this also happen with all the voipuser.org number ranges? - if not, can it?

Are you calling them from the UK or from another country? - some providers in other countries do not allow calls to some UK 08* numbers, especially the 0844's.

I would guess this is either because you did not enter the number in the right format or the cost to hungarian mobiles might be too high, even for the 070 numbers.

Yep - you can't even call UK mobiles from the outbound service.

Is the country for 0036 in the list of possible terminations for 0871?

Yes, I think you asked me that one before - yes it does.

Yeah, I did. That's why I asked because the above question seemed more specific to 0844 and I remember another thread where someone was saying they were having problems dialing their voipuser.org 0870 on the outbound service so I thought i'd check.

Thanks

ok to clear things up a bit.

You can dial:
- any destination with in the 2p a minute range.
- Any 0844 number that is assigned to another outbound user.

You cannot dial:

- Numbers more expensive then 2p a minute
- Other numbers for the "My Numbers" controlpanel

The last one's main reason is just because these numbers are more expensive and are often set to Landline destinations.

Regards,

Tj

404 means the user could not be found or is offline. Is he able to make outbound calls with his grandstream ?

If his outbound is working 100% and you are still having problems, please send me a private message with the usernames and the corresponding 0844 numbers and i'll have a look, but please double check again to make sure the outbound is working before you send me a private message.

Regards,

Tj
