Hello everyone,
I wonder if there would be interrest in not only termination of our UK numbers to SIP but maybe also to the IAX (Inter Asterisk eXchange) protocol. IAX is used mainly by users of the Asterisk Open Source PBX system. Of course we would use IAX2.
As we are expanding our network we might be able to offer this feature, but we need to know if there would be people interested.
If you are interested, just leave a reply here and if we get enough requests, I'll consider setting up a beta services for it.
Regards,
Tj |

I am sure there will be high demand. And it's a good thing to be a pioneer.
Why not act now? |

Hi Noob (and others of course),
In follow up of my post thing morning, I can now setup users manually for IAX termination. As this needs to be done manually (like the VoIP Voicemail we are currently testing), we can only support a small userbase for now.
To be able to use this services you will need to supply us with a valid IAX url. We don't offer IAX registration services.
Please contact me here if you like to get IAX termination setup for your number.
Regards,
Tj |

Telappliant have been providing iax termination services for a while, with online billing and account topup. |

That's right - but it's not free - they require you to be in credit with them for outbound services as part of a package.
What we are doing is offering the inbound IAX termination completely free.
Users can then choose and chop and change their outbound provider without having to change inbound number, depending on who's offering the best deals at any given moment. You could even have multiple outbound providers for various destinations.

As far as I saw TelAppliant revised their IAX service. You can get inbound IAX so long as you provide them with your Asterisk IP PBX.
http://www.voiptalk.org/products/index.php?cPath=41_48
I think they only ask you to buy outbound IAX credit if you want to use IAX for outgoing. |

It's not clear to me. Looks like you still have to pay for the numbers:-

Would be great if they started doing it for free though.

TJ:
I just had a chance to setup the UK # on the server and seems to be working fine, do you have anable the g726 codec? I'm using it with the IAX servers I have and has a good performance on bandwhidth and great quality. the better of all it's free.
Let me know if I can enable the g726 for the IAX2 connection.

Hi Jr,
We currently have active the 2 g.711's (a-law and u-law of which alaw is preferred as that is same as Euro PSTN), gsm and iLBC.
So G.711a if you have enough bandwidth, gsm if you need to save some and iLBC if your connection varies in quality.

Are there any authentication credentials provided by voipuser.co.uk when it makes an IAX2 connection so my PBX can be sure that it is really voipuser.co.uk making the connection?
(Since I want to add more trust for calls from voipuser.co.uk than random calls from anywhere on the internet - e.g. I trust callerID from voipuser but not from other IAX2 connections). |
