| fidencioga : | | How would I dial out this number (5776598103) to Colombia? And this number (523757584037) to Mexico from the US? |
If you mean calling using your softphone registered with VoIP User, and If we - I mean Google and me - are not mistaken, the answer is: No way. Why? Because the first number is neither in Baranguilla nor Bogota nor Cali, and the second number is neither in Guadalajara nor Mexico City nor Monterrey - i.e. in those Colombian and Mexican cities that are on the VoIP User Outbound Termination List, which you can find here: http://www.voipuser.org/forum_topic_336.html .

I can connect and log in without a problem but whenever I try dialing a number I get "Call not approved". I am dialing an Australian number in the following format 00 61 89212xxxx
The country code is 61, the local number is 089212xxxx |

Sorry forget it. I removed the #1 from the dial prefix entry in xlite and it worked fine. |

Another confused user with multiple questions.
OK, I have had an 0844 number set up for a while, and just got an 0871 one as well.
From my experiments where I happen to be right now, in the U.S., it appears that I can not dial either of those numbers from here. I am dialling, as I should, 011440844...., and get a message that that number is not in service. I suspect that this goes with a couple of the messages that I read, stating that this is not unheard of.
Secondly, I got myself an outbound number this evening, and set up my X-Lite to work with it, ( it did!!!! Yay!! ), and dialled the Packet8 telephone that I am sitting next to, and it rang and I was able to hear myself hear myself hear myself....
However, when I tried to dial the 0844 and 0871 numbers from the X-Lite, I was given the "404 Not Found" message that I have seen here, too. I tried 010844, 01844, 00440844 and 0044844 with no success. Is this also to be expected?
Finally, I tried calling my sister in Canada, and after a while it said "Connected" and the timer started counting, but I had no evidence that the call had actually been connected. ( no sound, etc. )
So, I seem to have had mixed success this evening ( or at least evening in this time zone! ).
It is a great service and I soon hope to finish setting up my Asterisk server as well.

Brian,
There are some countries (Poland is one of them, unfortunately) from which calling non-geographic numbers is impossible. I have two UK numbers from VoIP User (look at my avatar), but I can call only the second one. To call it I am dialing 0044870... - without zero between country code and the number.
Regards,
Ludwik |

Ludwik is absolutely right unfortunately Brian.
@Ludwick - how many telephone companies are there in Poland, and do you know if it applies to all of them?
What we've noticed for some countries, is that some service providers will allow outbound to international non-geo's - it seems to vary according to service provider and not Country.
Worth trying an 0870 though.
Thanks,
Dean |

One giant telco, almost monopoly, and a few small ones, still in their infancy.

I don't know. Will try to find out.

My two cents:
I'm from Spain and I can call to 0870 and 070, but not to 0844. In Spain there is one very big company (the only one until a few years ago), two or three not-so-big and not-so-small companies (I'm using one of them), and some small ones. |

Thanks, all.
I knew that asking so many questions at once would get me in trouble.
OK, I understand that I may not be able to call my inbound numbers from the US.
Should I be able to call my inbound numbers from my X-Lite and my Outbound 0844 number?
Thank you,
Brian |

With the voipuser.org outbound service you dial as if you are in the uk, so it would be 0844....
Incidently, dialing voipuser.org number ranges through the voipuser.org outbound will not use any minutes from the community pot because the server recognises the number range and dials it locally rather than using the pstn gateway.

I assume you mean X-Lite as setup for the voipuser.org outbound service?
If so, then yes you can but see my post above - you dont add any international codes to the front of them like you listed in your post above.

Yes, that's what I meant.
In some of the instructions that I found here for using the Outbound Service, I thought that I was being led to use "00" for calls outside the UK, and "01" for calls within the UK.
I just tried using my X-Lite, set up as described here and on the screen where I received my Outbound number, and entered both my 0844 and 0870 numbers, as given ( "0844484...." ), and am still getting 404 errors.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for the continuing help,
Brian |

That's correct.

Strange - that should work.

Ian,
I think I just confused myself again. In my first quote above, I say that if I am dialling a number within the UK from my X-Lite, I need to enter a number like "01084484...", and you say that that is correct.
In my second quote, I say that I ONLY enter "084484...", which is what I thought I understood you to say a couple of messages ago, and you say that that should work.
Which should I be doing?
B-)
