VoIP User X-Lite Setup

Download the X-Lite software from the Xten Website download page.

Once installed, if your PC is behind a NAT connection (it probably is if you have an ADSL router of any kind, or are sharing an internet connection on a network) then you'll need to do some port mapping, directing the following ports to the PC on which you have installed X-Lite. See your ADSL routers guide as to how to do this. The required port maps for a basic X-Lite setup are:-

UDP 3478
UDP 5060
UDP 8000
UDP 8001

Once you have set your port maps if required, launch the X-Lite application.

To setup, click the menu button highlighted below.

Image

This will bring up the main setup menu for X-Lite.

Double click on "system settings", which takes you to the following menu.

Image

Double click on "SIP Proxy"

Image

Finally, double click on the first entry marked "default" (if this is your first setup of X-Lite, your entry will not show as "voipuser.org" but simply "default".

Image

Change "Display Name" to your name.

Username should be set to your VoIP User site member name.

Password is your VoIP User website password.

Domain Realm is voipuser.org. SIP Proxy should be set to "sip.voipuser.org".

Double-Click on "Send Internal IP" and select "never".

The rest you can leave at the default settings and you will end up with something looking like the above.

Click the close window "X" at the top right hand corner of the setup dialogue to close it.

X-Lite should now log itself into our SIP server and you can now dial out to any landline in Countries we have access to, and people can call you on your X-Lite software phone by dialling your allocated UK 0844 number.

Thanks for the X-Lite setup info. After following all your instructions, I get the message, "Login Failed, Contact Network Admin". I have reset my VOIPUSER password but this does not resolve the problem.

Any suggestions, please?

Dean will probably clarify but according to the "My SIP Account" page, you have to use the password at the time of sign-up (which I assume is when you signed up for the outbound service, not for voipuser.org).

Do you still have that password to try?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have tried the original password withoug success. I did change my password shortly after activating my community SIP account. I wonder if the database has got "confused"?

Correct. It's your site password at the time of signing up for the outbound SIP account.

If you subsequently then change your site password, the password for the SIP server won't change and will remain the old one. They are seperate entries in the database and they are not synchronised. Yet. And it's way down on the list of priorities to do at the moment....

Password and username are case sensitive from memory - double check you have put them in correctly.

Thanks for your interest and support. I created a second SIP Proxy with the original password and can now connect correctly. I suspect the Default SIP Proxy was not correctly clearing the passwords when I re-entered them.

Thanks for an excellent service.

Hi,

That normally means you've dialed an invalid number.

You need to make calls as if you are in the UK - eg:

uk numbers: 01xxx xxxxxx
international numbers: 00 x xxx xxxx

hello Ian, Smile
I got it to work and was able to dial out a US number, but when I call internationally from here in the US I get an error message.

How would I dial out this number (5776598103) to Colombia?

And this number (523757584037) to Mexico from the US?

And lastly how would my friends here in the US would dial my UK number to reach me?
Thank you.

humm are they classed as US numbers?

If so, it's 00 1 <your number>

If not, i'll have to look up what the country codes for them are.

Ian, These are international numbers.
I live in the US and I would normally call from my landline this number as
such, 011523757584037 to Mexico.
But since I'm calling from the software with a UK number how would I dial out to Colombia or Mexico as stated before?
I tried dialing 00523757584037 for a call to Mexico and didn't work.
Thank you.
