Miraz - I don't understand quite what you mean by using different ports?
It wouldn't work for us, we have our SIP server bound to 5060. It's the only port it "listens" on.
It's possible that voipbuster etc offer more than one.
Kijaz - we use port 5060 because it is the industry standard/adopted port for SIP. I'll see if we can bind additional ports to a single server, so we can listen on more than one.
That's the best I can do - if the problem is with your ISP, the only way to resolve the problem would be for you to move ISP.

Dear Dean,
After various investigation and complain launch to Internet Service Providers in Pakistan (Worldcall Cable net and WOL), it is has been found that all port starting with 5000--5XXX has been blocked by PTCL(Pakistan Telecomunication Coorporation Limited)
It is informed by the Worldcall cable net that they donot block any port. PTCL sell the bandwidth to all ISP's in Pakistan and are blocking all ports 5000...5XXX (the most commanly port used for voice communication.
They didn't disclose any specific reason for blocking except saying that PTCL is upgrading there uplinks and blocking heavy data transfer.
It has been found that another port used for voice communication 6000....6XXX are still open and working in Pakistan.
Brain net in Pakistan faced the same problem but they had assigned another port i.e 8891 to resolve the issue. Please note that Brain Net is the only liceinced ISP to provide VOIP services in Pakistan with the name Braintel
Best option at the moment is to assign another port such as 6000----6XXX to resolve the problem for voip users in Pakistan.

Now things are getting worse, People in Australia also having the same issue?
Dean is working on the registration issue, so he can have other ports beside 5060 open for sip registration,
Can users from Pakistan use the testyourvoip.com and check other sip providers like FWD, voipbuster, bbpglobal etc and post the results here.

Dear Mirza
Here is the result of test by
www.testmyvoip.com
Your computer couldn't call our location on the standard SIP port (5060). Generally, this failure is caused by a firewall blocking our calls. We are going to re-run the test over a commonly available port (6000) to diagnose the problem.
The test agent could not connect to London using the standard SIP port (5060), but was able to connect and run a test to another location via an alternate port (6000). This indicates that one of the following may be true:
If you have a VoIP Service, your VoIP/Phone Adaptor may have reserved the standard SIP port and is filtering out our SIP packets. Consider temporarily removing the Adaptor from your configuration and re-running the test.
Your Personal Firewall, if you are using Windows XP, may be filtering the SIP port used for communication.
Either your home firewall or your broadband provider's firewall is blocking the SIP port used for communication.
You should consider investigating these settings and trying the test again.

Now the picture is clear, port 5060 is blocked by PTCL (I hope they do their upgrading soon and reopen the ports).
As Dean has mentioned he is working on opening some other ports for sip registration, so may be 6000 or above.
I also suggest sending requests to voipbuster.com to provide other ports for sip registration besides 5060 possibly 6000 or above. (I am sending request right now).

Chris - thanks. Yours and Beacons problem there was unrelated, and is now fixed...
I am still however certain that we are seeing widespread blocking of port 5060 by ISP's....

Dear Dean,
In Pakistan we are now unable to login to voipuser unless the port 5060 is unblocked or any other port is assigned to use the services of voipuser.org.

This port is being blocked for few months now. 6xxx are open, but you can not force the SIP providers or software makers to change their port just becuase your ISP is blocking them. Unles PTCL opens them, it will not work.
It is strange that PTCL is adding additional overhear by adding access lists on their cisco routers to speed up the Internet?

It's happening - & not just by port blocking - some examples:
I had an NTL cable-based 'broadband' service (I was trying to go VOIP only & get rid of BT line) - ALL outgoing packets were delayed for about 7 to 8 seconds thus a voip conversation of any kind was impossible. Questions to their 'help' never received a reply. The answer would have been "You need to buy our (NTL's) home 'phone" methinks!
When I try & use the peer number from FWD to GossipTel (**467) with my GossipTel number it ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS goes to voicemail yet my 'big ££££' generating number calls my GossipTel 'phone 1st time everytime. Is this REALLY a peer or just a pretend one?
There's a claim on FWD site that vonage cut peers to FWD.
Stories abound about Telcos detecting if a call has come from a VOIP gateway & rejecting them.
Hmm - don't expect this VOIP stuff to last in its present form folks!
Any comments?

Vote with your feet - move broadband service provider.
On the other points:-
FWD have had a couple of known problems with their server, and peering has been affected recently.
Vonage did indeed cut peering with FWD a couple of years ago. It has never been reinstated.

They have specifically blocked those ports to prevent revenue loss from taxes in most cases. International calling is quite lucrative, but they want to be the ones to pass the call via SIP, not you. That way they can charge you!
Good luck on fighting that one. I don't see a reasonable work around.

You might have a look at the Vbuzzer.com website. They have been attempting to circumvent there blocking problems by the UAE. They also run SIP on port 80.
