VoIP User Echo Test Server

Written by dean on Sep 07, 2005 - 07:03 PM

OK, we bit the bullet and TJ has installed an asterisk server on one of our machines, primarily for the moment running an echo test system for users to test their SIP installations. We may do some other things with this box later.

Number to dial, from your SIP phone is:-

0844 986 3246

.... or to put it another way:-

0844 986 ECHO

Wink

From a VoIP User SIP phone, this doesn't actually hit the PSTN, but goes direct to the asterisk server in the UK. It also makes for an interesting latency test.

It can also be tested by dialling from the PSTN, which will show you latency from our PSTN gateway to the asterisk box.

It's capped at maximum use of 1 minute per dial.

The hosted server it's on has no bandwidth limit, so use it as you like, but it's on a 2m/bit pipe so may "max out" if you all hit it at once.

It should also prove to be useful for testing peering, as it can be dialled from any of our peers using the appropriate prefix.

A list of our peers and prefixes can be found in the MySIP control panel.

I read your post Dean and... could you please provide the config lines you added to sip.conf, extensions.conf or whatever, to setup an echo test number on your Asterisk?

That's I would enable my Asterisk home server to do the same (just for fun and also for little testing)

Thanks in advance.

Ciao.

Hi Lidio
Hope you dont mind Dean I thought I would save you a bit of work.

I thnk the echo was part of the sample files once. If not here we go
In the extensions.conf add

Code:

exten => 510,1,Playback(demo-echotest); Let them know what's going on
exten => 510,2,Echo; Do the echo test
exten => 510,3,Playback(demo-echodone); Let them know it's over
exten => 510,4,Hangup; Start over

in the above example dialing 510 enters the echo test

I consistently can't get through to this echo test, either from a Voipuser registered SIP phone or from a real phone (last night and this morning). Has the Voipuser asterisk system gone awol, or ??? Are other people having the same problems?

Hi Stephen,

Strange - looks like our Asterisk server box had been restarted.

Should be OK now.

Thanks,

Dean

All OK now. Helpful to have a direct Voipuser echo test.
Thanks, Dean.

Appears to be constantly busy at the moment...

Thanks for the service - it certainly makes testing much easier!

The echo test number still apears to be out of service, tried it from my voipuser phone and my mobile.

Keep up the good work, this site is my main reference for anything voip.

Dave

Thanks guys, we'll take a look at that.

We recently moved our SIP server backed to it's usual location and IP address, it maybe that we forgot to tell the asterisk server where we moved it to.... Wink

Is the service still available?

Thanks.

Hi Richard and welcome to VoIP User.

Yes.

Why do you ask? Is it not working when you dial it?
