Hi:
I am trying to install Asterisk@Home in a Pentium-S, 96MB RAM, 8.6 GB HD (Seagate Medalist 8420); but, after installing everything from CD nothing else happens, just an "Installing Bootloader..." message that never disapears (4 hours and waiting).
I really know this is a very old computer but it is the only one I have available now and just want to start playing with asterisk in linux. I have done some test with AsteriskWin32.
¿What is wrong with my installation?, ¿Can this be fixed?, ¿How?.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Juan C. |

Hi
It could be the RAM. I know that the redhat based email gateway I supply will not load with less than 128M of ram and Centos is a bit hungier than Redhat. Have you tried installing Redhat 8 or 9 or mandrake ?
Firstly though tr a bit more memory.

Thanks Ian for your reply.
It is really frustrating. I needed to wait 10 hours in my slow cable connection (128Kbits) for Asterisk@Home download; I also bought a new CD ROM (US $ 30) for my old computer. Now I have an old useless computer with a new CD ROM.

what is the spec of the machine , ie processor speed. aah is fairly bloated, vanilla asterisk is fairly easy on resources, so installing mandrake or the like may mean you can use your hardware.

I`ve the same problem. I've tried to install Asterisk@home in an AMDk6-2 350Mhz with 256Mb ram and 4'3GB hd, and in an AMDk6-2 333Mhz with the same ram and hd.
Otherwise, in an AMD 1400 with 512MB ram and the same hd it has been installed. |

Hi guilleroa
TBH yours sounds like either a corrupt cd you are loading it from or a corrupt HD.

Testing the CD on another machine is always good policy, but I think I would tend to suspect the processor.
I've had problems persuading Red Hat clones to play nice on K6 processors, so I suspect there is an incompatibility somewhere in the murky depths.
Try using Debian or SuSE, both work well.
Also worth noting that AAH will not install directly on SCSI hardware, or run on anything less than a PII 300. |

I see I'm responding to an old message, but I'm having the same problem only mine isn't an old box. It's an IBM M50 Pro 3.4Ghz with 1GB RAM running on an older HDD that I'd just checked for errors before installing. I'm trying to install Trixbox 2.6.2.2 |

Can you describe exactly what happens when you try to boot the CD? The common problems are that (a) the CD has been incorrectly created (does not boot at all) and has be created as a data disc containing the iso rather that being a CD made from the iso. (b) the CD is a bad burn and has bad sectors (d) insufficient memory (sometimes you can get around this by installing from the command line if the install normally runs in graphic mode). Make sure that the downloaded iso has the correct md5sum. |
