Hi all:

Starting from the 23 july voipbuster is not working as before
when making calls with other than voipbuster softphone.
So, i would like to ask people who are not facing any kind of problems when making calls through voipbuster using X-LITE or X-PRO to be kind enough to let us have yr settings so that we can compare and see what might be wrong.

tks in advance.
hilario.

Voipuser/XLite still working for me (though quite a few odd failures to connect; about 50% of attempts fail).

Here are the setttings below -- pretty much the same as those others have already suggested. I'm afraid it won't help much?

I note I didn't answer an earlier question about 5062/8002.
These are not the usual 5060/8000 to permit me to use XLite at same time as another client (experiment only). I don't have any specific router/firewall holes, STUN just seems to fix it for me (as Dean suggested). The message I get during setup is
"Discovered Port Restricted Cone NAT Firewall"

Hi Hilario, i think it's not a settings pbs, on my ATA I don't have modified settings since few weeks and voipuser on channel 2 work fine, voipbuster on channel 1 has problems.

This morning, aparantly call to France & Switzerland are back to normal for me.

Milky - it's not impossible that some settings will work and some won't (possibly indicating a glitch on VB's server) in which case posting your settings is helpful, and I suspect the reason why Hilario started this thread.

I think you will find its a capacity problem. Different times of day it will be possible to get a line, others it won't. They are obviously getting a lot of uptake and don't really have the resources in place to cope.

To my mind this would be the point at which to go commercial but since their custom software is still shall we say 'flakey' and very much in Beta - I guess they don't have that option.

I suspect the flakiness, capacity and other issues will be resolved when it becomes a chargeable service.

In fairness to them at the moment service is being given away, so you can't really "hope" for anything.

I agree in part with you.

But I signed with 5€ at the beginning because it seemed to be reliable and we could make stable connections, so I was not only looking for free calls.
I was looking for a cheap service with good quality, and I thought it was.I used it also for payed calls.
But I understand yr point of view most of people has nothing to complain.

Yes, it is of course a different story for those that, like you, have paid for service.

Dropping the forum and offering no support or response to emails is, even on a beta service, appalling.

The best thing you, and other users, can do is to vote with your wallet.

Take your business elsewhere - they clearly are not that bothered about it.

A shame really, as I think they could have had a nice product.

Because I haven't seen it mentioned, and because it might throw an interesting light on their setup, and possibly future pricing plans:

VoipBuster is a service operated by Swiss telco Finarea SA,
which also operates call1899 and call18866. Here is a list of
other services they operate throughout Europe -- not sure if it is complete:

www.1031telekom.at (AT)
www.telediscount.at (AT)
www.billignet.at (AT)
www.1899.com (UK)
www.call18866.co.uk (UK)
www.voipbuster.com (UK)
www.telesoldes.com (FR)
www.telerabais.com (FR)
www.callcheap.be (BE)
www.directbellen.be (BE)
www.telediscount.nl (NL)
www.bel1649.nl (NL)
www.01071telecom.de (DE)
www.telediscount.de (DE)

These services are of two types: (a) call a shared-revenue number, priced according to where you want to call, and then dial your destination number. You will be billed by your normal phone provider, no pre-registration needed; and (b) register on their website and place calls by dialling an "equal access" prefix (i.e. 1899 in the UK); you will be charged a per-call charge of a few pence or cents, and then a per minute charge (which is optionally announced at the beginning of the call, and which to some destinations is 0).

I suspect that the VoipBuster service will end up with a charging system like (b) -- a couple of cents per call, and then either nil or a few cents per minute for destinations with a competitive telecom market, and more for monopoly-ridden destinations.

I have been using their Austrian 1031 service for the past eight months and have had absolutely no problem, neither technical nor billing-related, so I am confident that once VB enters production it will be a useful and reliable service.

Ok but why this strategy ?

why so many different services and only 1 company ?

I dont see the point...

A fairly common tactic employed in the aquisition of market share.

Rather than adopting a wide-net marketing and targetting approach, you target a large number of smaller niches.

I personally think they had their most interesting product in the shape of voipbuster. Imagine if they had stuck a decent IM client in it? They've lost an incredible amount of goodwill in the last 2 months over these support issues however.

Sometimes you need to consolidate your effort, or get left behind.

wolfnpaul :

www.telediscount.nl (NL)
www.bel1649.nl (NL)

we got more than only these domains/products in The Netherlands.

Bel1601.nl
telestunt.nl
teledump.nl
spaartelecom.nl

for example (there are more, just look at a compare site www.televergelijk.nl, half of the list is there's). If you check there domainregistration it's all the same bel1601/telediscount group.

The use german (grib) software for there websites, which all look the same.

I always thought that they just start up a lot of company's becouse of people dail numbers 0900 for a long time. And they change the cheapest number between the company's (so if you don't watch all sites you'll pay a little extra).

Once there was an investigation (becouse it's the biggest growing provider or so in NL) who was behind it... only the newspapers still know this...

And to make it more fun:

1. First connection

mails send from both Voipbuster and Telediscount come from the comnet.nl domain.

Comnet Internetional B.V. (note: NOT internAtional!)
Keizersgracht 62
1015 CS AMSTERDAM

"Wasn't comnet the viditel/bbs service in the Netherlands
(microtechnology comes to mind...?"

2. 2nd connection

Searching the Chamber of Commerce gets this result:
