Is there any numbers I can call to make sure my settings work? Another way is to list some 0800 numbers that are automated recordings so you can dial them for testing.

Hi Felix,

Welcome to the forum. IIRC, VoIPUser doesn't provide any test number; however, if you want to test your VoIPUser phone, you certainly can try the FWD peering echo test by dialing **393-613 on your VoIPuser account.

Have been all over the site and have not found any single definitive FAQ on numbering and no helpful test numbers.

I believe that in order to dial a UK number it is necessary to add 0044.

Given a common UK number that is listed as 020, such as

(020) 72212217 (Hilton Hotel, London)

I would dial 00442072212217. As of the moment this fails but I'm afriad I am going to have to get out a packet sniffer to figure out why. It would be helpful to know if it *should work*.

Hi ralden

That should definitely work and you must still have some other settings wrong or you are not logged into the server.

The difinitive 'how to' dialing guide FAQ is here ...

Hi Ralden,

Our gateway is situated in the UK, so you can just dial the number as if you were in the UK:-

020 7221 2217

Yes, it should work fine if your phone is correctly setup.

I have just tested with both 0044 20 7221 2217 and 020 7221 2217 and they sure worked. I just let the calls ring and hang up before the calls were answered.

I was finally able to call the London Hilton OK (I had mis-typed my password). However, the FAQ on dialing is still not a model of clarity Smile Thus my phase II experiment, which is to dial myself, is still not working.

I was assigned this number:

08449863101

An INVITE to sip:08449863101@voipuser.org is answered with "trying - your call is important to us" followed by 404 Not Found.

The FAQ suggests that omission of 0044 is important if the number is one of the "internal" numbers used by voipuser.org, and indeed dialing

004408449863101
00448449863101

both fail. Somewhere else it is suggested that ** is used for magic numbers but **08449863101 does not work either.

I believe I also tried omiting the leading 0, i.e.:

8449863101

Please advise.

Hi Roland - We would be absolutely delighted if someone from the telecoms industry based in the US were to make some amendments and a contribution to the FAQ from an American perspective. Please either post the text here or PM me with it and I will add it - thanks

If I understood you correctly, you tried but failed to call your VoIPUser SIP number from another VoIPUser SIP account by dialing 08449863101. If this is the case, then it should work without any problem unless your setup has some problem.

I was calling my account from my account. However, I have a fancy setup on my end with two Cisco ATA's etc. So if I called my London voipuser.org number on one it should have circled back and rang the other ATA with no problem. I was using a packet sniffer and did not see anything come back other than Not Found.

I reckon the system is setup to disable loop calls through PSTN. However, you can still call your VoIPUser SIP # from the other VoIPUser SIP #.

If you don"t mind; place a test call to me if you can. 08449863101. If it doesn't work let me know what happens Smile

I just called you and got an engaged signal. Try to edit your Edit your home page, put the following to your Home page configuration, be sure to refresh your VoIPUser forum page, and hopefully the status of your VoIPUser SIP # will show on the left-hand side of the page:

On my voipuser home page it says I'm "offline". However the software I'm using (Brekeke) shows:

07-17 17:31:54: Register successful - sip:ralden@voipuser.org

and since I can call the London Hilton it would seem that it considers me OK for outbound dialing.

Most Americans don't understand that your national dialing prefix is 0 (as it is 1 here). I didn't wholly get that part either, since I didn't know... we don't know a lot of things about other countries here :p ...probably a big notice for people in the USA.
