Hi,

I'm searching for the most inexpensive phone system for residential that can support point-to-multipoint PAGING/INTERCOM as part of the system (and having a hard time finding the anwser). Any advice/leads on a system that:

* Paging
- Can act as an internal paging/intercom system (as well as phone system) - i.e. push a single button and speak and you are heard on the speakers of each of the other phones
- A means of putting a unit on "silent" mode so pages are not heard (e.g. in bedroom)
* Points - Up to 4 or 5 points in the house (i.e. number of handsets), only one external incoming phone line
* Fixed or Cordless (slight preference for cordless, however if cordless would be good to have the paging support in the base that the cordless phone plugs into, to avoid the issue of phones that aren't where they should be)
* No real need for any fancy features such as intelligent call direction, voice mail etc - perhaps just the ability to, if one takes a call at handset A, ability to still page to all outer units to ask person B to pick up at another point

Thanks

Welcome to Voipuser forums.

I think most cordless phone sets do what you are looking for. The Sanyo one that I have is fairly old but does paging quite well and can have a unit act as a "baby minder"intercom. I don't think it allows the audio to be sent to all the phone without them being answered first. Incoming calls can be transferred to a selected handset and so on.
I have one incoming PSTN line and a 3 handset cordless (I think up to 5 handsets were possible) but this "i.e. push a single button and speak and you are heard on the speakers of each of the other phones " I don't think it can do. It can ring the other phone selectively or all together but they must be answered to hear a message.

Yes, I already have such a cordless system but it's the point to multipoint paging where the voice comes out of all speakers at each point that I'm searching for.

Yes, I had concluded that was the feature you wanted. Thing is, phones are designed to transmit the audio when the hook is lifted. In the baby minder (Room monitor) mode mine rings and picks up but that is not what you are looking for. You would need the phone to switch to speaker phone mode as well. I think what you are looking for is called a Key Telephone System (controlled by a KSU) as used in some stores and other places.

That's pretty much what I guessed, so the challenge is finding an inexpensive brand/model/series, hence my post. That is I really don't need the features of a full blown PABX system.
