Telefonica Buy-out Jajah for $207m

Written by martyndavies on Dec 23, 2009 - 06:28 PM

So the persistent rumours were true, and in fact the bidding race for Jajah has closed, with Telefonica walking away with the prize.

Jajah has been an interesting VoIP pioneer the last few years, with a dual consumer-facing and service-provider focus. Their innovative marketing has brought them more attention than the average long-distance/international arbitrage operator, even if it didn't make them into another Skype.

The all-cash deal was for $207m (Eu 145), and Jajah will continue working for now under its existing brand. Telefonica operate under the consumer brand O2 across Europe, and it's not clear if Jajah will ultimately become part of that.
