Apple to Buy iCall ?

Written by dean on Dec 14, 2009 - 09:17 AM

Rumours all over the internet at the moment are that Apple is about to purchase VoIP operator iCall for $50-$60m.

US based operator iCall claims just over 4 million users, with 100,000 of them mobile on their iPhone application.

Pat Phelan has an interesting take on how Apple can address the fraud issue that is the thorn in the mobile VoIP players side:-

Quote:
Devicescape recently conducted a survey and found that 82% of those surveyed wanted their service provider to offer special 3G/Wi-Fi packages

It looks like Apple could become that service provider and if you could pay for that airtime through your iTunes account even better in Apple’s view as it practically elimanate the fraud issue which plagues voip providers.
