I'm looking for a short list of North American SIP providers who offer affordable calling and a list of services that's competitive with Teliax (voicemail, user friendly web portal, etc). A pay as you go option would be nice.

I'm leaning towards Teliax, but I'm wondering if there are competing services that I'm just not aware of.

Welcome to Voipuser forums.

We cannot really recommend particular voip providers as there are so many of them. The one that you mention looks similar to many others and the only thing I could say about it is that it might be a litle expensive but that may mean that you get the service that you pay for. What is the best service also depends very much on your needs. For some an inexpensive bare bones service is all that is required but for others (eg. a business that depends on the telephone) a super reliable full service provider may be needed. The nice thing about Voip services that you can give one a trial and if you don't like it, try another.

I work with a few different VoIP system and my advice would be check with the PBX manufacturer first. For instance, Mitel, once of the Voip platforms I support puts out an Interop list of vendors they have tested thier solution with. Even a step further...once they certify it working with that vendor, they will post a step by step manual of how to configure your settings.

So definately check with the PBX manufacturer first and see if they have any "known vendors" that they have already tested thier equipment with.
