Hi.
Firstly I'm new to Voip I understand the basics but I'm on a steeeep learning curve.
OK my problem is I am a small business owner I need four lines into my office all with there own number. I only need incoming calls no out going calls needed.
I've already purchased the fritzbox 7270 but I'm now wondering if this is really for me ?
I'm firstly having no end of problems just getting the box to connect to the Internet. I select connect via PPP it asks me for my user name and p/w which the service provider should have given me (but as I'm in a rented office with broadband already cabled in I have no idea what this could be, and neither does the landlord ! )
OK I have another router a BT homehub I have one voip phone connected to that using sipgate.co.uk.
How on earth can I get the four numbers via just one broadband connection ? Can you have four voip phones connected to one BT router with four different routers or can some one show me the way wth the frtiz box... I'm UK based |

Welcome to Voipuser forums,
What kind of high speed internet connection do you have? The provider of your connection should be able to tell you how to connect. If it is already part of a shared installation then it might be part of a simple ethernet network in which case the ppp will not work so you really need to find out .. perhaps ask one of the other tenants. The Fritzbox should be OK for your purposes and voip phones should be all you need connected to the Fritz network. |

Hi and thanks for the reply + the welcome !
It is a 16Mb connection - I think is is possible a Ethernet network but no one seems sure of anything. The firtzbox 7270 seems some what complex to set up. The other routers I have used before have simply been plug and play. What other ways can I connect if it is a Ethernet system ? |

The Fritz 7270 appears to be one of the more complicated routers that you could have purchased. If you just want something like regular phones the a fairly basic basic router (+modem if needed) would have been enough. The Fritz has has wifi included and supports a Dect phone system in some way (Fritz boxes do not seem to be found over here in Canada). First thing to do is get yourself a copy of the manual for that particular device.

There are intructions for connecting to various kinds of networks on page 29. I guess you can try "trial and error" to see if you can connect to a network but you should still need a username and password for the network that you have. |

Thanks !
I think the fritz box maybe going back to the shop !
Ive been looking at these;
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Linksys-PAP2-NA-S ... 1|294%3A50
(Linksys PAP2 Sip voip phone adaptor from ebay)
It says you can run two regualr phones each with its own number. Would I be able to buy two of these adaptors and plug them both into my router that way getting the required four phone lines ? Iam thinking of using sipgate for the calls as well |

You have not given much information about your proposed business. How many calls do you expect? How many users?
You could configure two PAP2 devices to give you four line but this might not be a very good answer for a business. If others are to use the phones (I guess you can't use 4 at once) then I would probably choose to use voip phones. Voip phones vary from about 40 UK pounds to very much more for multiline phones. I suppose you will get your accounts and phone numbers from Sipgate? |

You should be able to do what you want with the PAP2s but you will need to set them up carefully. You will also need some POTS phone to plug into them.
Be careful not to pay too much for them and make sure that they are unlocked (not locked to a particular provider). |
