Hi There

We support a user running a Macbook laptop running OS X 10.4.11. We're running our office phone system through a TrixBox voip server with X-lite software installed on the Mac.

We need some hardware.

Must have's : We need a device that's compatible with these systems. It needs to be small (hand held), lite and reliable. It's for a CEO of a hi profile organisation so must be reliable and easy to use. She doesn't want a head set.

Nice to have's : Ideally with speaker phone functionality. caller display would be nice too. Corded is preffered but would consider wireless. (havn't heard great things about VOIP wireless, still a bit new maybe ?)

We have seem a couple of devices that may fit some of the requirements but are awaiting confirmation from the company's providing them.

Can anyone help with a recomendation(s) or are we dreaming ?

Regards

Welcome to Voipuser Mashan

I think the reason there are no replies so far is due to a lack of real information from you about what you actually want to achieve here and what facilities you currently have.

If you are already running Trixbox somewhere on your LAN then you can connect any hard wired IP phone anywhere within your office or alternatively use WiFi to power a WiFi VOIP Phone or an ATA to power any conventional wired phone. (See equipment from Linksys, Siemens, Snom etc)

Any of these could be used in conjunction with a soft phone running on a Mac (or any other OS for that matter).

You could even run something like Fring on a Mobile phone (a model with handsfree) and use it anywhere within WiFi coverage)

If you are looking for a USB phone to plug into the Mac then that will also be possible but few offer extensive facilities. Eyebeam or Bria running on the Mac will give you more features than X-Lite (Video conferencing for example) so just a simple software review may give you the user facilities you want. Why not just leave the Mac alone and run it as one extension when convenient but add other extensions with other equipment to fulfill further specific functions.

If you can give a bit more to go on then I am sure we can come up with more ideas
