Hi all,
Apologies for all the issues over the last month or so with outbound calling. Fundamental reason for it was we had reached a stage where we basically had to rebuild the entire backend network infrastructure to support some new services we want to put in and also fix up a lot of previous sellotape and string fixes which were well overdue.
We think we've got it pretty stable now and certainly outbound calling should be working for everyone.
If you experience any issues, can you please post in here and let us know, with an approximate date/time of the call which failed, and how it failed or what you experienced.
We've tested:-
X-Lite (on Mac OS X)
Telephone (brilliant little Mac OS X client with a terrible name - hard to find it in a search but you can get it here : http://code.google.com/p/telephone/ )
Zoiper (on Mac OS X)
X-Lite and "Telephone" are both working fine. Zoiper has some early-media issues (you might not here a ringing sound when you call a number, even though the other end is ringing).
If you've had no problems with a particular device or piece of software can you also let me know in here.
Thanks. |

Hi Dean,
Its great to hear that the outbound service is back to live. Appreaciated your great work. I just tried to call thru outbound service but I couldnt hear any ringing tone but the other person told me they received only one ringing missed call and somtimes the phone even never rings and the call has been dropped. Could you pelase look into it. Once again Thanks so much to brought back the service live. |

Hi usmabs.
Thanks. We've noticed some issues with certain clients (Zoiper is one) not giving the ringing early media sounds.
Which client are you using ?

Hi dean,
I am using X-lite 3.0 client. But the call is not connecting it seems like disconnecting itself. |

I tried making calls with an SPA2100 and I can call 0800 numbers but when I try chargeable numbers I get fast busy (I only tried two calls to each, so may not be fully conclusive). I did not notice the ringing tone issue because the 0800 number I used answers immediately. |

Calls do seem to be working from where I am. You are a long way away (near our antipode) but that should make no difference. |

dibsmft, yes, I am a long way away but that has never been a problem before. I have made a few more calls and things seem to be working most of the time, although I made four test calls to my home at about 0655 UTC (0755 BST) 28/5/09 and all four were funny. One gave me fast busy and my home phone only rang once and the other three rang OK but when I hung up, my home phone kept ringing. I wasn't going to answer so as to not to cost Voipuser a couple of pence (afterall, I was just testing to see if the phone rang) but as the phone kept ringing I had to answer those three calls just to stop the ringing. Of course it may not have been anything VoIP related at all - the ringing tone was choppy and it sounded like the calls went through about a million cheap refile carriers on the way so it could well have been one of them not releasing. It would be interesting for an admin person to check Voipuser's records and see if any of my calls were answered. |

That'll be latency based on the distance between you and London. You'll find it will vary depending on time of day etc but unless we put a server in Australia it will always be there in one form or another.
How long did you leave the phone ringing before picking it up in order to silence it ?

Did you try again ? |

I don't usually have a problem with poor quality due to distance - the SPA2100 is extremely good at compensating so I don't get echo or choppy speech (as a rule). I always get close to PSTN quality through Callcentric (I'm not knocking Voipuser - it does what it is supposed to do brilliantly).
Anyway, I may not have waited long enough for the call to drop. I only waited for four rings (12-14 seconds). I have just made some more calls: 3 fast busy (presuumably you're overloaded), 1 slow busy (although my line was free), and one rang but I didn't get ringing tone. I hung up and timed it and it took 23 seconds for the phone to stop ringing. |

Sounds like you are not properly logged in. Can you call echo at 08449863246? |

I get the same problem when I hag up. PSTN continues to ring for a long time. I guess it is ringing until until the PSTN server hangs up. The voip disconnect message in not getting through? |
