Hi

I have just purchased Cisco 7940G IP phone and want help configuring it to SIP.

I am a complete novice and don't know where to begin...I didn't realise that it would be so complicated otherwise I would have purchased another brand or got a sip converted phone already!

Does anyone know of a step-by-step guide for beginners, of what to do first and where etc, which they can send me or point me in the right direction?

If anyone can help me that would be great.

I have VOIP providers and they are also struggling to do this - they are trying to configure it remotely. They are supposed to be experts!?!

I just want to see if it can be done, as I hate to be beaten. I am going to try getting the phone working with sipgate.co.uk

Your help is appreciate.

Thanks
Lisalou

Welcome to Voipuser forums.

Please describe your network (router, fixed or dunamic IP) and post the current settings on the Cisco 7940. I assume that it is now configured with SIP firmware if sipgate are trying to configure it. If this is not the case then you will need to install the SIP firmware eg. ...

Thanks
