Yes, you can ring landlines. No, there is no charge.

The catch? This is a community funded service. Your outbound calls are being paid for by revenue generated by inbound calls.

If you generate nothing to the inbound system, or the community in general, you will get cut off by our server, that's the catch.

Unlike the phone system in the US, the BT system charges its customers for any local calls, i.e. you pick up your phone @home, place a local call, and the length of the call is charged to your account based on per-minute. If you have an account with VoIPUser, you are given a non-geo UK DID (0844) and anyone in the UK who calls your VoIPuser non-geo number will pay for the calls. This payment is the incoming revenue to VoIPUser. Then, VoIPUser will set aside certain percentage of incoming revenue to fund the community pot in term of minutes call so that VoIPUser members can share the minutes call to place free outbound calls.

I hope my explanation here is concise and accurate.

Pretty accurate Mazi, but it's not a certain percentage, it's 100%.
