ACME Absorbs Covergence

Written by martyndavies on Apr 30, 2009 - 04:04 PM

ACME Packet has just acquired Covergence for an economical $22.8 million. Covergence recently re-aligned to serve the emerging market in SBCs for enterprises, and a key part of this strategy was software-based SBCs. Covergence had software SBCs running on IBM blade servers, and essentially the same software running in a VM as a "virtual appliance". Their innovative approach led to applications like interworking Microsoft Office Communication Server and IBM Sametime clients using in a hosted backbone.

ACME are the epitome of the "big iron" approach to SBCs with their "Net-Net" products used both for peering and policing of the network edge. Covergence may well fill a niche for them at the low-end, and away from the telco core.
