Hi All,

this is my first post here and ive got some problems!

ive just got a number with sipgate, its all registerd and i can make calls from my pc with no problems, however i cant receice calls! if i call my voip number i just get an engaged tone. if i call my voip number FROM my voip number it goes through fine and rings on line 2 in x-lite.

does anyone know what this could be?

thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Welcome to Voipuser forums.

You probably have a problem with ports. It would help if you gave some information about your set up... modem, router, computer (Linux or other) etc. However, you can try running Stun on X-Lite and see if that helps (I currently use stun.voipuser.org ). Normally testing voip by calling yourself on the same network/computer is not very useful. The Sipgate echo test number is 10000.

im with virgin media, i have an NTL Cable modem with a bt voyager 1500 wifi router, and im using vista. I have my number with sipgate which is a normal local number, and im using x-lite 3.0

even if im offline with the pc turned off i still get the same problem ( i dont know if this is relevant, im new to all this! lol)

thanks for all the help so far. Smile

oh and what is stun?

[edit] - i just tried the address you gave in the stun server box and i couldnt dial the 10000 number, i then went back to stun.sipgate.net:10000 and i could. in both cases i could not receive calls though.

I have tested X-Lite on Linux with sipgate and it is working OK. I do not know much about the router that you have but you can try forwarding port 5060 UDP for SIP and 8000 - 8020 UDP for RTP from the router to your computer. THe manual should tell you haw to do that.
If BT do not provide a user manual then you can find it here
http://www.voyager.bt.com/wireless_devi ... loads.htm#

Another problem that you might have using Vista is with codecs..
have a look at this

Meanwhile, if all this is beyond you at present, you may find it simpler to try using a Voxalot account (free basic).

Remember, Voipuser is non-profit, free and run by volunteers who mostly have their own jobs to pay the bills that really matter. I am not in the UK so I don't know what the exact problems are with the PSTN service at present and I normally use a paid service to preserve the Voipuser funds as much as possible. What I do know is that every effort is being made to get things back to normal. As far as I can tell the popular incoming numbers are operating as normal and it is just the free outgoing calls and the voip user PSTN numbers given on registration that are giving problems. SIP to SIP calls using your sip address are working normally. At present when I call a PSTN outgoing number I get the same
"Call failed: 403 Forbidden" error that you get.

Thanks , I know that this is a non profit VoIP provider but I thought that you are aware of what's not working properly.

Yes, indeed, I generally know what is not working properly but may not know why is it not working properly.

i think port forwarding is all a bit beyond me at the mo, what i dont understand is how voxalot is any different to what im trying to do at the moment.

It might be worth mentioning that im pretty much never going to take calls on my voip, im just going to use it for voicemail and forwarding calls to my mobile.

I am not sure why, but there are two people at present having trouble getting sipgate working and it is not clear why there is a problem (works for me) an that is why I suggested that you try Voxalot (free basic). At least it will give us an indication as to were the problem is. (If Voxalot behaves the same as Sipgate then the problem is with your set up but if Voxalot works (probably with STUN) OK then we need to look closer at the Sipgate requirements.

If this is all you need then it should work OK.

The voxalot X-Lite setup is here

http://faq.voxalot.com/action/view/Conf ... se_Voxalot

Once set up if it logs in OK the test number is

*600 (or 600) and should give you an echo test with two way sound etc.

If you only get one way sound as you are using the MS-Windows version then you may need to do this..

If sound works OK let us know.

Interesting, so the problem seems to be associated with the Sipgate setup. Did you do this step

?
If you did you can give sipgate another try as it may also work.
