I am trying to convert a 7940 Cisco phone from call manager to SIP, but the tftp is indicating that I need a .tlv file that is named <CTLSEP(MAC address).tlv>. I've tried every method I've found on the web (various tftp servers, deleting he tlv file, etc.) for 2 weeks with no luck. Then i came across the below remark on this board (date and user indicated). I'd basically like to know if this means I can somehow set my tftp server to
"sip.voipuser.org" and flash my phone from there? (If I upload my bin and .cnf files?) Or can the site help construct a .tlv file I can use locally or pull from the site?)

"...You are also going to find it easier to set up and test if you use a remote server like Voipuser - it's pretty much exactly what we exist for. I couldn't help noticing that you hadn't requested a SIP account."

Hi Zoid

Sorry that does read a bit unclear three years later ! What was meant was to set up a SIP address at Voipuser and let the Cisco login to the Voipuser server to see if it registers. The server here doesn't have any specific Cisco files and you will need to transfer those first by FTP.

What does puzzle me is that file name, its not one I know. Are you sure you have the correct SIP image? Can you get back to us with a bit more info.

Oh, I see now. The site (service) is for post-firmware-related issues. I'm still at the firmware impasse where i need to push SIP in and Skinny out.

This CTLSEP(MAC address).tlv file issue is a pretty well reported nuissance to the many folks who've encountered it. Cisco docs i've read mentioned that its actually sought first before any file and thats what my tftp server bears out.

I don't know if a transfer of my SIP image (and even other prerequisite files) for a Skinny to SIP swap will solve the problem unless your platform has some factor that will cause my Cisco 7940 to not ask for the .tlv file but I'm certainly willing to transfer over files for an attempt. I've got nothing to lose. Everything else i've tried has failed.

Though, if anyone out here knows how i can constuct an actual CTLSEP(MAC address).tlv file that my Cisco phone can then authenticate when it reads it, I'd be eternally grateful. ...would even estoll your virtues in my next rap single release Smile
