I'm a newby to the world of VOIP and having major problems trying to set-up my Zoom 5800 to work with my Sipgate account.
The problem I have is that when I set-up the 5800 using the Zoom Sipgate user guide, it won't log on to the Sipgate server if Stun is enabled. Once stun is disabled, it will log-on to Sipgate server, (recognised as being on-line both on the Sipgate GUI and the ATA ready indication), but will not make or recieve any VOIP calls. Any calls made from the PSTN to my Sipgate number go straight to voicemail as if the ATA is off-line or busy. All ports are open to the ATA since it's in a DMZ behind my USR 9108A router.
I raised this connection problem to Zoom tech support who said that updating the firmware and configuration levels to 1.4.0 would fix the problem, but even this dosen't work!
Has anyone got a Zoom 5800/5801 to work reliably with Sipgate as I would realy appreciate some help and guidance?
Many Thanks |

Welcome to Voipuser forums.
The Zoom 5800 that you have has built in Voip so I assume that is the way that you are trying to connect. If that is the case then you should have no problems unless you are connecting the Zoom behind a modem/router which is what you are doing in which case you will need to open the ports on the router needed to support voip. Turn off DMZ and check the voip ports (SIP and RTP) used by the Zoom and forward those ports to it from the USR. If you also have a ISP provided modem/router you will probably have to do forwarding from that as well. |

Thanks for the suggestions - the Zoom 5800 is located behind the USR 9018A router and I've set-up a virtual server to open the ports specified by Sipgate, (5060, 5004 and 1000 UDT) and my ISP firewall is turned off.
Interestly, the Sip server can see the 5800 and according to the Sipgate GUI, every thing is fine and should work!
I'm agree that set-up should be straight forward, but I'm really baffled! |

Check the actual SIP ports required for voip in the Zoom (probably 5060 - 5064 UDP) make sure they are forwarded to the Zoom from the router. Also forward some RTP ports (whatever the Zoom uses or just a range eg. 8000 - 8020 UDP). I have a Sipgate account and it is at present given ports 5062 UDP (SIP) and 8002 UDP (RTP) and is woking. |

Thanks again for your suggestions - I tried that and still no joy!
What really baffles me is that both the ATA thinks its ready to make calls and the Sipgate account status shows that the ATA is on-line, but I still can't make or recieve any VOIP calls!
I'm at a total loss as to what I can do now to make it work! |

If your devices have it, try turning on UPNP with IGD support. |

Thanks to dibsmft I've made some progress in norrowing down the problem in that I've established that my current set-up can recieve voip calls with full two way speech and can make out going voip calls, but with mo speech either transmitted or recieved!
Currently the following ports are opened on my router for Sipgate:
ATA 5060 5086 UDP 5060 5086 192.168.1.220
ATA 5004 5020 UDP 5004 5020 192.168.1.220
ATA 16384 16482 UDP 16384 16482 192.168.1.220
ATA 10000 10000 UDP 10000 10000 192.168.1.220
ATA 8000 8020 UDP 8000 8020 192.168.1.220
Also, I've had to disable Stun in order for the ATA to log-on to the Sipgate server!
Do these symtoms mean anything or has someone experianced something similar?
This rookey would appeciated any help or guidance offered.
Many Thanks |

Did you power cycle the router and Zoom? Sometimes this is important. |

It seems that there might be a problem with codecs with Sipgate, Vista and X-Lite (if that is what you happen to be using).
Have a look at this

Success - I think that I've cracked the problem by changing the router. I would appear that my USR9108 was not fully SIP aware and was still blocking ports even though I set-up a virtual server and put the DMZ.
Following advice from Zoom, I replaced the router with a Zoom X6 5590 and immeadiately without any further set-up, my ATA was registered on my Sipgate account!
The moral of this story is that if you have voip problems - its more likely to be the router, especially if its a few years old. |
