Due to billing errors, reliability problems, and an indifferent attitude to resolving them I'll be moving my and my family's/friend's business away from them for a second (and last!) time. I would like to keep the number though as many people already have it. Has anyone successfully ported a number out from them? They can't give me a straight answer on this and I am wondering if it's possible or not since they likely do not "own" the numbers they provide.

Thanks for any info if someone has first hand experience.

I don't know.

You might approach the number provider and ask them if it actually possible

Find out who it is with a number search database such as

Hi

you will have to speak with them, not 100% sure what the rules are in the USA about porting. But the options are:

1. speak to them, Dont expect much help though

2. Find a new supplier and as them to port the number over to them. As it will be the supplier who has to do it.

It's not a UK provider, I probably should have tried another forum but figured many UK voipuser people might also use them or similar for a US incoming number.

The porting in the US is much more ahead of the UK porting from what I've read. It is "mandatory" that they port it out if you request it, but... with VoIP I have still heard of problems since many providers don't "own" the numbers they assign. Voicestick shows a "port-in" option on their website though so if they allow ports in and not out I'm pretty sure that's a major no no.

Went ahead and attempted the port today and should, theoretically, know if it was successful in 24 hours. Will follow up just to finish the thread and leave the outcome documented for the benefit of others who may be in the same situation.

If anyone cares, I was able to port the voicestick number out onto a pre-paid mobile account without a problem. Took longer than the usual 24 hours, they claim because it was a "landline" port. So, in about 7 days time, it was completed.
