When you hang up on another user while ringing them, it does not stop ringing. What do you think the problem is? Any help much appreciated.

Check out the video, makes it easier to understand.

Thanks

What makes you think it's a Cisco problem and not a SIPgate problem ?

Have you tried it with another service provider ?

First a simple answer...

The Cisco phone that I had in my office was not the best phone I had ever used. It had several problems but the most irritating was the hang-up cradle. After a call it frequently failed to hang up. I had to remember to always put the handset in the cradle in a very determined and purposeful fashion. It was not the only phone that had the problem. So, check first that the problem is not mechanical/design problem. If that is not the problem then there might be something wrong with the "hang up" signalling/voltages.

Hello,

Well it's not the phone mechanical/design, because every thing happens as it should, the screen goes back to the cisco logo, which it does when it's not being used and i still get the problem when using hands free. It's like it's not communicating the fact that it has hang up?

Is there a setting for a time-out when hanging up?

I also tried the sipgate account with X-lite which hangs up fine, so it's not the sipgate account.

any other ideas?

Thanks for your time..

Perhaps a Cisco SIP user will be able to offer some advice. Lets wait and see for now.

Which SIP firmware version are you on?

Have you upgraded recently? If so was it OK before the update?

If not then can you do an update of the firmware (Latest is 8.9 which works OK and seems pretty stable). And then let us know what happens.

On the video, were you calling on the same network? Unless set up correctly that can mess up communications.

Perhaps exchange it under warranty or return for a refund.
There are plenty of others to choose from.

It has the latest firmware

Are you sure? Many resellers of these phone do a very basic SIP conversion and ship with version 7.4 there is a publicly available release after that (8.2 I think from memory)

I am calling on the same network, but when calling out to a pstn line i get the same problem, which can make it expensive if the pstn line goes to a answer phone.

Thanks for your time..

Check the actual version number of the firmware. Try calling my sipgate number as that if off your network. If the hangup problem is still there then I would return the phone.

I have discovered something new, after disabling sipgate voice mail on the secondary account , when phoning the secondary account it does stop ringing after 21 second from hanging up, but when calling a PSTN number out from sipgate it carries on rigging forever. Strange. The other strange thing is when calling out to a PSTN line and hanging up, i tried unplugging the phone, which had no affect., the PSTN line still was ringing, i notice once the phone was unplugged the modem was still flashing with network activity, even tho there was no other network activity. Then i unplug the modem and the PSTN line was still ringing. This gets stranger by the minute.

The next thing to try will be an outbound call to a PSTN line with my Voipuser account, but i am awaiting the security period 72hours in till i can try this.

That will be an interesting test.

Any other ideas please let me know..

Thanks for your time.

On the phone itself

Press 'Settings'
scroll down to 'Status' and press 'Select'
Scroll down to 'Firmware Versions'

What is the Second line down after Application Load ID?
It says something like POS3-0x-x-xx

What are the figures you have for the 'x's?

POS3-04-1-00

Is that good or bad?

Its pretty bad actually. The friendly supplier that told you he had loaded the latest SIP image has done nothing of the sort. You have quite a few long and difficult steps to get current firmware in there. You are currently on 3.4 and the latest release is 8.9. You can't even get there in one step and you have to go through several earlier releases in order.

Best thing you can do is to ask your supplier to do this for you, the alternative is to start reading the existing resources here on Voipuser (Search for 'Cisco 7960' or 'Cisco 7940' they have the same setup procedure). There is also a lot of additional info on Voip-info.org if you do the same search.
