hi guys,
I live in uk and currently have a sipgate a/c for incoming calls ONLY. I have just received an unlocked linksys pap2t router. I was very excited in setting this up, but i feel very down as i've spent a whole 2 dayS messing with no results.
OK here is my setup:-
Linksys PAP2 adapter
Netgear WGR614v4 router
Sipgate A/C
Standard Analogue Phone
20m/b fast virgin modem, connected to the netgear router(this will be dedicated connection, once setup correctly!).
Now i managed to setup manually following sipgate website's instructions, but when i test the line, by ringing from my mobile, i have loads of problems such as sometimes phone number is dead, or person who calls from mobile can't be heard on the voip phone, or calls are cutting etc. I just hope that VOIP is not unreliable.
I have now cleared every setting i added on the linksys, so its back to default. What i want is someone to eithier show me a link to EVERY SINGLE SETTING i need to change or show me what i maybe doing wrong.
Lastly does anyone know how i can permanantly disable the netgear router's firewall in order to eliminate firewall problems? I need the instructions precisely for the wgr614v4.
thanks so much! |

Welcome to Voipuser forums.
You have probably already used it but have you followed the set up instructions on the sipgate site? From what you have said so far, it looks like you have a problem with your Netgear router not allowing ports through to your ATA. Try forwarding ports 5060 and 5061 UDP (sip) and 8000 - 8020 UDP (rtp) from your router to the ATA and then power cycle (hard boot) the router. If that works OK, if not try running STUN is that ATA supports it. It you want to use the Sipgate account only for incoming you may find that it does not work and you might need an unrestricted DID (like you will have to pay for one). If the Netgear really is dedicated (20 Mb/s does seem a little overkill as I only have 1.2 Mb/s down and 0.600 Mb/s up) then a solution may be to remove it and plug directly into the modem if that is possible. |

hi dbismft,
thanks for replying. My netgear router simply allows me to add ports that i want to forward, but i can't find any options where it allows me to specify UDP or RTP?
FYI, I have added the following services to my netgear port forwarding:-
What are ports 16384 - 16482? (I've even forwarded them!)
Now if you think i've done this correctly, then my next questions are:-
1. What are the WORKING sipgate settings?
2. How do I for temporary totally disable the firewall or whatever on the netgear router that may be blocking the linksys adapter?
3. Do i need to add/change any port settings on the linksys adapter too? |

The RTP ports are not fixed but must be available (the 8000 range are often defaults on X-Lite). I looks like there are plenty available.
Config. from Sipgate Site.....
https://secure.sipgate.co.uk/user/confi ... inksyspap2
Why not plug the PAP2 directly into the modem to test? If it works OK them you will know that the problem is with the modem.
Was PAP2 supplied by Sipgate? |

the pap2 is not the DHCP router and won't assign an ip address to the cable modem.
So wot do you think i should do then m8? |

Is says "Unlocked" rather than "NA" or never locked. I hope it is NA from the price. |

The problem now seems to be solved. Forwarding the SIP and RTP ports was what was needed. |

thanks to dibsmft, my phone is now working absolutely perfect.
I'm sure many cable / virgin / ntl / telewest users must be really frustrated by this problem, so just to make life easier for other UK users of sipgate and pap2, here is what you need to do:-
REMEMBER DON'T CHANGE ANY OTHER PAP2 SETTINGS OTHER THAN WHATS BELOW:
1. First of all, make sure everything is connected as it should be, including your telephone, cable modem, router and pap2
2. go into your WAN router and reserve a FIXED ip address for your PAP2, so for example 192.168.2.3 should be a static address reserved only for your PAP2 - hard reboot all equipment for changes to take effect.
3. Now go into your router's port forwarding and forward ports:
a. 5060 to 5065
b. 16384 to 16482
c. 10000
4. Goto your pap2's webpage and into admin mode / advanced. Now go into the SIP MENU OPTION and:
a. ENABLE STUN=YES
b. add the STUN SERVER to stun.sipgate.net:10000
c. Set NAT KEEP ALIVE INTVl=20
d. Save Settings
5. Now goto LINE MENU OPTION and:
a. LINE=ENABLE
b. NAT MAPPING ENABLE=NO
c. NAT KEEP ALIVE ENABLE=NO
d. SIP PORT=5060
e. PROXY is sipgate.co.uk
d. add your display name, user id, password, auth id details which can be obtained from sipgate's website in your a/c.
e. USE AUTH ID=YES
f. Save Settings
Now hard reboot in the following order and let each item finish their reboot cycle:-
1. Your Router
2. Your Cable Modem
3. Your pap2 adapter.
Once the hard rebooting has been done, your pap2 should have 3 lights on...LINE 1, INTERNET & POWER.
Thats it! When you pick up the phone, you should hear the ring tone.
Good Luck! |

At one point, I had about eight units of unlocked PAP2v1 on my private LAN. Some of the PAP2v1 units were configured with static IP Address while others were on DHCP. I never opened and/or forwarded ports on my WiFi NAT/Firewall router, yet all PAP2v1 units worked happily without any conflicts/problems using STUN approach. If you configured your PAP2T unit with a STUN approach, it just makes no sense to perform ports forwarding on the router. |

Unless you have a symmetric NAT. Under those cicumstances forwarding is required and STUN can still be usful in determining the external IP. |
