I have been looking into asterisk and it seems to be the solution for me.
What I basically am looking at is having two servers, one in Canada and the other in UAE. I want a analog phone connected to the servers on each end so that i can call between them.
I also want to be able to have a phone line connected to each server so that we can access each others local phone lines to make phone calls.
And would there be a way to call from a cellphone and get connected to the server in the local country which connects to the outside country to make calls? Much like a calling card.
I am looking for the correct terms for my research and a bit of guidance. I have found asterisk to be a wonderful free software with advanced feature and am hoping for it to be my solution. |

Welcome to Voipuser forums.
The UAE restricts the use of voip and this would probably cut your communications between the servers. You should do a little more research before taking the plunge. |

Is this for simple home/family use or business use?
How many minutes, how many concurrent calls etc? |

it will be my home business use. So it won't have a lot of load. there will be only one person using it on each end. so no real concurrent calls. i hope you get what i mean. |

In that case, you will be better off with with an ATA at each end (I use a Linksys SPA3201 and that or something similar can do all you want) and you will not have to have computers running all the time. |

If you are just using this for internal communications and trying to save money, why not use something like magic jack?
$40 for the hardware and 1 year of service, $20 a year after that.
Just an idea. |
