I have a Siemens S685IP that worked great when I used it connected to the LAN jack in the wifi box. Now I live in the country and only have access to internet through my mobile (nokia e51 connected to the PC via USB) or through an Huawei HSDPA modem that connects to the PC through a USB port. Is there any way I could connect my gigaset to the PC's LAN ethernet jack and use it to make voip calls while connected to the internet via the USB modem? I plugged the phone to the LAN jack but nothing happens. I have windows vista.

Many thanks.
Olivia

Welcome to Voipuser forums.

You could set your computer up to use its ethernet port to "share" the internet with the phone. Both Linux and other operating systems can do this. Once set it up your phone should work. Hmmn, I hope your data rates are cheaper than ours in Canada! There is an iNUM number available in Peru so if that was a cheap cell call you might be able to find a way to make use of that for some voip calls

I am not a MS Windows user but take a look at this

You should only need to go to step 11 reboot your computer and then plug in the phone and with luck it will get an IP using DHCP. If not you may have to configure it as if was a computer witha static address as described. Check that the phone connects. If not you may have to adjust your computer firewall.

I think you will find similar instructions for MS Windows Vista.
