Telcordia to Provide ENUM for +1 Zone
Written by martyndavies on Feb 18, 2009 - 10:00 PM
The USA's country code management company
CC1 ENUM LLC, has chosen
Telcordia to build and manage the registry for ENUM lookups in the Country Code 1 zone, i.e. chiefly the USA and Canada. The CC1 organisation was formed in 2004 to manage the North American Numbering Plan.
ENUM registries provide the necessary mapping between phone numbers and IP addresses that allow legacy telecomms and IP communication to run side-by-side and interoperate during the transition to an all IP world.

If I am interpreting it correctly and perhaps loosely, it will allow you to dial and reach VOIP phones through any landline, I guess it is awesome news to say the least.
I wish we could get the ability to reach all the VOIP islands that exist out there as we go along.
