MailVision announced today that they are the latest entrant into the iPhone / iPod Touch SIP client business. Exhibiting at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today, MailVision have expanded their Pico mobile SIP client to include the Apple devices, in addition to the existing support for Windows Mobile and Symbian. The iPod Touch and phone then become WiFi-enabled VoIP and SMS devices.
There have been a rash of announcements in this area over the last couple of weeks, including Truphone, Fring and Jajah. Where MailVision differs from the first two is that they are selling a mobile VoIP/SMS platform, so the client is just technology that allows and end-to-end solution. Jajah’s recent announcement is also an ‘operator’ play, in that they are offering a white label solution that network operators (or even content companies) could use as part of a branded product.
