Palringo Add Geographic Presence to iPhone

Written by dean on Jan 28, 2009 - 01:06 PM

Palringo, who offer an IM client combined with Push-To-Talk voice and also picture sharing, have bought their iPhone application up to date with the Windows Mobile version by introducing a geographic presence feature:-

Quote:
“Just knowing where someone is can be really useful, and knowing how far away they are is even better. The prospect of knowing where someone is before you start adds a whole new dimension to your conversation,” said Kerry Ritz, Palringo’s CEO. “It can eliminate worry and will probably mean the end of a lot of unnecessary ‘Where are you?’ calls. And soon you’ll pretty much be able to watch your friend, a few minutes late for your rendezvous, approaching on a map,” he added.

It's a nice system - Kerry gave me a demo on the Windows Mobile version a couple of months ago.

As Jeff Pulver said to me this morning - Presence is the new Dial-Tone. What Palringo have done is to make it intelligent.

Palringo for me has begun to replace SMS (the "group" feature in Palringo means I can blast a message to multiple people at once). I can see all kinds of applications for combining that grouping of contacts to their whereabouts. That makes it a really interesting social tool.
