BlackBerry : We will turn away apps From RIM AppStore

The success of the iPhone AppStore has created the inevitable trend and now everyone with a smart phone on the market is jumping in on the action.

RIM are aiming to go live with their application store in March and are soliciting innovation:-

Be first in line to submit applications you've designed for BlackBerry® smartphones to the new BlackBerry application storefront. We're counting down to a spring launch and we're accepting submissions right now.

In an interview today with ZDNET Mike Kirkup, Chief of Developer Relations said:-

Quote:
...the bandwidth policy might differ across different mobile operators. "We are definitely going to be sensitive to people moving a significant amount of traffic over the carrier's network without an agreement with the carrier," he said, identifying streaming video and audio as possible sticking points.

Will VoIP be out? I would imagine so. It's not likely that the incumbents would agree to allow it, and RIM are very sensitive about pandering to their network customers.

I can also see an additional problem for RIM with their brand which is far more corporate and less "street". And it's the "street" that like to play with phones and install apps. I'm not saying that the corporate executive doesn't want to do that, but I can bet his IT Manager would prefer him not to.
