With thanks to Philip Veale at Gossiptel and James Body at CallUK we now have two new peers setup:-

The Gossiptel prefix is: **467

and CallUK : **285

So you can dial from VoIP User to any subscriber on those servers using that prefix and call peer to peer.

You can also dial a VoIP User member from either of them using our standard prefix of **448 followed by the members 0844 986 **** number (or their username if you have alphanumeric dialling).

The full peering list (4 so far) is now in the My SIP Account control panel:-

http://www.voipuser.org/index.php?name=MySip

You need to be logged in to see it.

More to follow. We've been talking to Sipgate and agreed to peer, but we need to sort out a little of the technology side to make it happen. We might even end up just going to ENUM and doing it that way.

Our ISP is PlusNet, who have just offered £5 credit to be used before end of January. It would seem like a good time to experiment especially as in mid-January I am giving a presentation on VOIP phones to the local business community.

I can call VOIPUser from BT PSTN line using 0844 etc.

I can call VOIPUser from Plusnet using **448 0844 etc.

To return the PlusNet call from VOIPUser I should dial **768 etc. When I try I get what I think is busy tone after **. Does this mean that all Outbound Peering calls will fail? I tried on 25th and 26th December.

I can call my BT PSTN number from VOIPUser.

Is this the same problem as macdav reported?

A similiar problem was also reported by no-line-rental see - http://www.voipuser.org/forum_topic_3593.html
