I use a Nokia E61 as a WiFi extension to my Asterisk PBX. I don't actually use it, my wife does. She says that when she talks on it, it does get warm. When she uses it, she usually stays on the line for and hour and a half. It doesn't get too hot to hold but it does get noticeably warmer.

My E61 is the same. If it's using data (not just for VoIP but also IM/presence/location apps that talk to the Internet) then it gets much warmer, noticeably if the bluetooth is in use too.
