Google To Launch European GrandCentral Service

News is filtering through the Spanish media about GrandCentral being launched in Spain sometime in 2009.

GrandCentral was purchased by Google in 2007 for an undisclosed sum, rumoured to be around the $40m mark.

It works by issuing customers with a new phone number which, when dialled, can call more than one device simultaneously on a "first to pick up gets the call" type group hunt basis. It also has a voicemail service which allows you to listen to a message being left for you live, allowing you to decide whether or not to intercept and take the call.

GrandCentral is currently only available to US customers with an invite code.

The Googlesystem blog reports that Google have chosen a model similar to VoIP User. Outbound calls are free, but based on the user generating inbound traffic.

Quote:
Apparently, voice calls are free, but they're linked to the voicemail service. The more calls you receive, the more you can call other people for free.

Original Spanish news report:-

Quote:
"GrandCentral provides an innovative web-based voice communications platform that helps you manage all your phones and phone numbers through one simple interface. You get a single phone number that forwards to all of your phones, giving you one number for life."
