I have had my Speedtouch router working well on Voipuser, using the two analogue phone connections, for several years after getting some settings advice from this forum.
The problem came when I tried to use my Nokia N85 phone via the WiFi signal. I got the phone to register with Voipuser, but no incoming audio could be heard. I followed every link on this forum and eventually came to the conclusion that the Speedtouch NAT firewall was the problem. I tried the STUN settings to no avail and did port forwarding on the Speedtouch, but still one way audio. Only Voipuser was affected. Other VOIP services like Voiptalk and Voipdiscount worked just fine.
My Speedtouch is on the original firmware 5.3.2.6.0 which I have been unable to update, as the old Speedtouch menu structure does not include an update utility and the updater on the supplied CD does not seem to work with my XP computer.
The Nokia N85 can be made to work on VOIP, but you need to add Nokia S60 VOIP settings release 3
http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.noki ... tings.html This gives all the settings for VOIP that are missing from the phone as supplied, presumably at the request of the mobile service providers!
Here are the settings I used on the Nokia:
Under tools/settings/connection/SIP settings
Public user name sip:username@voipuser.org
Use compression No
Registration When needed
Use security No
Proxy server address sip:sip.voipuser.org
Realm voipuser.org
User name username
Password password
Allow loose routing Yes
Transport type Automatic
Port 5060
Registrar server details Exactly as proxy above
Under tools/connectivity/net settings/advanced voip settings/NAT firewall settings/domain parameters/stun settings
Stun server address stun:stun.voipuser.org
Stun server port 3478
All other parameters were left with the Nokia default values.
This still would not work, until I did the following on the Speedtouch:
Port 5060 seemed to need unbinding, so that it could reach the WiFi and not just the analogue VOIP ports.
On my PC I clicked Start/Run/Telnet/ o 10.0.0.138 to reach the Speedtouch directly, then I entered:
connection unbind application = SIP port = 5060
Carriage return
saveall
Carriage return
system reboot
Carriage return
This releases port 5060 to other applications. Make sure you include the spaces exactly as above or the commands won't work.
After a reboot this got two way audio when making peer to peer calls, but not to the PSTN.
I then instructed the Speedtouch to assign the public IP address of the router to the Nokia. This is done using the Speedtouch menu structure.
After rebooting the Speedtouch and the Nokia, everything worked with two way audio on all calls. Next morning, I was back to one way audio again. I noticed that the IP address of my ADSL connection had changed, so rebooted the Speedtouch. Still no joy, so I rebooted the Nokia and I was in business again! I will probably get my ISP to assign me a fixed IP address to get over this problem in the future.
I tried disabling STUN on the Nokia and it still worked, but decided to leave the STUN server set, so as to get the best chance of a connection at othe WiFi access points.
I apologise for the long post, but hope the above information (arrived at over many hours of fiddling) may help others struggling with connection issues using similar equipment.
