Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a DECT phone compatible with Skype and SIP. I spent an hour googling but couldn't really find anything interesting. Any suggestion?
Cheers |

Also, forgot to mention, I'd like to be able to schedule the ringer on/off
i.e. Mon-Fri 9am-5pm the phone rings if somebody calls, but any other time it doesn't
Am I looking for something yet to be invented? New niche market? |

Skype, no. But you can plug your DECT base station into a SIP ATA (like Sipura) like I do here. As for the scheduling, I don't think this is off-the-shelf, we're into PC territory here, and programming your own telephony/CTI application. |

If you are using Voipuser "My Numbers" it seems that they can be forwarded differently according to the type and time of day. Perhaps you could utilize that. Voxalot also does timed forwarding and might be worth a look. All SIP of course. |

Thanks guys. Besides the scheduling, why you reckon there's no DECT+Skype+SIP device on the market yet? Doesn't seem to be rocket science, but still...
I can see the very same question was asked exactly one year ago, but no progress since then. I don't agree with what lord_alan said on that post, since most of modern devices can handle far many more apps running simultaneously |

Possibly a Licencing issue. Manufacturers have to pay a fee and submit devices to Skype for branding approval. Skype would be unlikely to agree to a SIP/Skype device.
Diverting your inbound Skype calls to a 'inum' number that links to a SIP device would work. |

That'd be very nice, but the Skype icon wouldn't look the same to the caller and forwarding only costs more than what I normally spend for VoIP calls |

You don't need to buy the expensive forwarding package for Skype. As long as you have some credit in your account you can forward to any PSTN number for the cost of the call. You don't mention where you are in the world but if that call is to a US 1-800 then the Skype diversion cost is zero.
If you divert long enough to grab CLI and then ring back that gives you another option. Don't overlook the fact that you can divert minutes of calls every day for several years and still not spend 50 dollars so any hardware solution costing more than that may not actually save you real money.
If you are set on a hardware solution then (as per my suggestion in the very first thread you referred to) a good quality Skype phone (such as the ones available from Siemens or Philips) connected to an ATA like a Linksys 2102 running your SIP account will allow you to have access to PSTN/VOIP/Skype all on one device. |

Probably that SIP/RTP can be done with a relatively puny processor, so little boxes like the Linksys ATAs can do that, and it's a small jib to add a DECT chip to that.
Skype on the other hand is designed to run on desktop machines, and has realtime encryption of the audio streams. You need something a lot more like a desktop computer and less like a small appliance with DSP power. Probably the expense of building such a thing makes the market too small to be viable. |

Just wanted to add that this scheduling functionality is available on a lot of the panasonic dect handsets (I have one). If you get an ATA you can buy one of these handsets and use it with voip. |

Like roton says, I have this feature on my Panasonic DECT handsets.
It can't do weekdays but it can certainly do times of the day.
I believe the model is the KX-TG73 but I suspect it will work on most of the Panasonics.
You could also, of course, program this feature into your Asterisk server if you're using the DECT handsets with an ATA and Asterisk (as I do, with moderate success).

I'm using a GE DECT 6.0 Model #: 28310EE1-A phone that also does Skype and Voip. The phone is a Skype client too, no computer needed. I have my a USB VOIP adapter plugged into it via phone cable and it connects to Skype through an Ethernet cable. So my VOIP adaptor and Skype ring the same phone, I have different ring tones set for both. But there is no SIP client for the phone or ring scheduling built into it's firmware, so it is limited to Skype and an analog phone only.

This is a Skype IPPhone ONLY, i.e. no SIP. |

You will need to run the usual sip client on the computer with the USB adapter. The USB adapter FXO may not be compatible with the GE FXO. |

I said it has no SIP client in it. Actually it is a Skype phone AND an analog phone in one, I use a VoIP service with a USB analog adapter plugged into the analog part of the phone and Skype is built into the phone. I think the admin editing my post may have confused you. |
