Mobile VoIP Takes the Punches

Written by martyndavies on Dec 01, 2008 - 09:37 PM

The credit crunch is obviously starting to bite hard with startups in the telecom space. Fring and Trutap are both said to have started significant layoffs; both companies are active in the mobile messaging market, with Fring also doing some SIP/VoIP over 3G data and WiFi. Both companies have been surviving largely on venture capital, which is now drying up.

In addition, mobile VoIP company EQO are rumoured to be on the ropes, having already shed significant jobs a couple of months ago. Looking at the blog and support forum at Eqo, it's easy to conclude that there's not a lot going on there any more.

A smaller adjustment is taking place at Twitter, who are removing Canadians' ability to connect Twitter updates to SMS messages, a step they already took some months back for Brits. But all is not gloom for Twitter who have attracted Facebook as a possible new owner.
